Robert Brown:

CLASS OF 1970
Stuttgart, AR

Robert's Story

Life well i've been retired since 1995, and married to bobbi russel since 1982. we both enjoy backpacking, fishing for trout and traveling in our motor home with some of our birds. bobbi and i both retired eastman kodak company, and are just enjoying ourselves. we've got a rock pile(ranch) close to batesville ark. with plenty of deer and turkey's and other wildlife on it. we've currently have 2 horses, 4dogs, and 9 birds. we live within 4miles of the white river and do a lot of trout fishing as well as so deep sea fishing down out of mobil, alabama. we don't have any kids which we never did want any, i guess our birds are our kids as we have a scarlet macaw, a congo africian grey, a severe macaw, a sun conure and four teils. well not much else to say except howdy to th class of '70 and howdy to you all Workplace How to begin? After my military service I went back to school and worked my way into a chemical engineer degree(masters) and went to work for eastman kodak after helping my parents build their house(i took 2years off). I was working one day and there was a girl in the break room I hadn't saw before. She came and sat beside me and we started up a conversation which hasn't stopped yet. Her name is Bobbi Russel and after a year we got married. We haven't been blesed with any kids, but we are blessed with 8birds, 4 dogs, 2 horses and a bunch of wildlife on our rock pile(ranch of 6500 acre's) We enjoy life and each day something comes along that surprises us both with it's beauty and peace. Be it just watching a lighting bug doing his dance, or wild turkeys gobbling in the woods, or fawn deer scampering around...Life is good. You just need to take the time to look and enjoy. I just don't understand all the hustle and fast paced living other folks do just to say: I have that also, when their neighbors have bought something new. Just call us old curmugeons or hermits. We don't get a lot of company up this way except for our few friends and relatives. We do have a lot of aquaintences, but can number our friends on both hands. You know the type we're talking about. Folks that will do anything for ...Expand for more
you without any questions asked and not talk behind your back about so and so said this, or so and so done this. I guess most folks consider us aloof, but we don't care. We're just very private folks and lead a very simple life. Before I forget(which would not get me anything for supper) Bobbi my soul mate is a chemist(also a masters degree) and retired also. She retired in 1994 and I in 1992 and both of us do some consulting work for eastman chemicals and dupont. Hope everyone's life is a happy and fullfiling as ours Military I was drafted out of college when they dropped the student deferment. I was no. 1 in the draft the first year I was eligeable and no.3 the year they dropped the deferment. I was assigned to 150th air calvery as a door gunner and spent 6 months in Vietman. I was wounded by some shrapnel and received the purple heart. I also received the Silver Star for actions of pulling my crewmates to safety after our Huey crashed and caught on fire. The worst thing I remember is after being discharged and comming home, I was spit on and called a baby killer. This really hurt me, especially because it happened in my home town of Stuttgart. It was very fortunate that I didn't have my M-60 machine gun with me at the time. I guess that's the reason I've not been to any reunions or the class of 70's functions. I think back about that a lot and I'll never forgive those, whom I called friends all through H.S. doing that to me just because I wore my dress greens when I came home. I couldn't wait to leave that small narrow minded town where I grew up. My wife and I are very happy now and have a great time together. I don't consider her my wife, she's my partner in this life..forever. I have stayed in contact with a couple of the folks from the class of 70 and do enjoy hearing from them. We live about 5miles from the White River and our ranch just about reaches the river(200yards away). We both love to float the river and fish for trout, or anything else that bites. I wish everyone well and happiness, and remember the person you piss off today just may be the one you will need tomorrow.
