Robert's Story
Life
After graduating from Senn I joined the Army and spent three years before enlisting in the USAF. After a great career of 25 years I retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. Served in the United States, in 45 of our 50 states, and Overseas in both Europe and Asia. After retirement, worked with the Department of Defense (DOD) Civil Service for 18 years as a General Engineer, Community Master Planner, and Chief of Maintenance in the DOD Public Works. Retired on 1 December 2001 after 45 creditable years due to a 1957 law admending the 1947 DOD Establishment law.

Along lifeÃÂs path way I managed to Graduate from Maxwell AFB - CCAF (three AAS degrees: Civil Engineering Technology, Work Center Management, and Vocational Education) in 1976, Vernon RG Jr College (AAS in Mid - Level Management) in 1978, Wayland Baptist University (BS degrees in Civil Engineering Technology and Business Administration) in 1980, and Webster University, (MA in Management) in 1986.

I have work in the following career fields of General, Construction. After graduating from Senn HS I began military service in 1955 by enlisting in the U. S. Army and training at Forts Leonard Wood, Carson, and Belvoir. After completion of basic and advance training assigned to the 66th Engr Company in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1957 the Company was transferred to Fort Polk in LA. Come 1958 I was discharged from the Army and enlisted in the Air Force being assigned to the 1st Air Installation Office (AIO) at Selfridge AFB, Michigan. 1959 transferred to the1373 Mapping and Charting Squadron, Detachment 13 which became the 1381st Geodetic Survey Squadron at Orlando AFB, Florida. IN 1960 transferred to the 7420 Electronic Sitting and Evaluation Squadron at Ramstein AB, Germany. Three years later I was transferred to the Base Civil Engineering Squadron (BCE) at Tyndall AFB, Florida. In 1964 transferred to Ground Electronic Engineering Installation Agency (GEEIA) at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. 1965 with the disestablishment of GEEIA transferred to the 5040 Civil Engineering Group. 1967 transferred to the BCE Squadron at McChord AFB, Washington. With the removal of all General and Geodetic Surveyors from All Air Force BCEs in 1967 I was transferred to the 7454th RADAR Sitting/Evaluation Squadron at Hill AFB, Utah. With the disbanding of the 95th BW in 1974 I was transferred to the 96th BW, BCE at Dyess AFB, Texas. 1975 transferred to Civil Engineering Training Group at Sheppard AFB, Texas. After serving a three year controlled tour I was transferred to Headquarters NATO, Allied Forces Southern Europe (NATO-AFSouth) at Naples, Italy. With a NATO reduction in force I was transferred in 1979 to BCE Squadron at Rhein Main AB, Frankfurt, Germany. 1982 transferred to the 1st BCE Squadron at Langley AFB, Virginia retiring 1983 from the Air Force. In 1984 I was hired by the Navy in the ROIC at Corpus Christi, Texas. 1985 I was promoted and placed in a Master Planning Position within Public Works at Corpus Christi, Texas. 1987 I was hired by the Army PWD at Mainz, Germany as the Chief of Facilities Management and Master Planning. In 1990 I was transferred as the Chief of Roads and Grounds and later promoted to Chief of Buildings and Grounds with the Army Tactical Area Command at Kaiserslautern, Germany. 1992 with a reduction in force caused by the fall of the Berlin Wall in 89/90 I was returned, by Defense Civil Service to the Public Works at Corpus Christi, Texas as the Chief of Master Planning and Energy Management. 1996 the Army again hired me for a position at Pusan, Korea as the Chief of Buildings and Grounds and an additional duty as the Deputy Director of Public Works. 1997 the Army transferred me to Hanau, Germany as the Chief of Buildings and Grounds with the Area Support Group. 1999 I was transferred to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) as the Director of Installation Support, Facilities Management, and Closing Actions at Fort McClellan, Alabama. 2000 the Air Force hired me as a Civil Engineer at Randolph AFB, Texas. In 2001 I retired from Civil Service. I hold the following military awards: Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal six oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Nation Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Leaf, Air Force Outstanding Unit Ribbon with eight oak leaf clusters, Air Force Overseas Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, and the Air Force Longevity Ribbon with five oak leaf clusters. In 2006 VA granted 100% Disability due to Agent Orange.
