Robert's Story

Life After attending high school, I went on to college. It wasn't easy, as I had to pay my way through no scholarships, no loans (thank God!) I took an assortment of menial jobs throughout college and managed to get a BS degree in Math. Feeling comfortable and liking my job back home, I kept working at the job I was at during high school. I finally got more ambition and moved on to a job in pharmaceutical manufacturing and then into AT&T Bell Labs. I retired from that job in 2001 and went to another company in the same field, where I worked until my heart surgery in Nov. 2004. I then took a job as a laser technician in the nano technology field, and a short time later was laid off. I worked at Sarnoff Corp. a company with a history much like Bell Labs. I got laid off in 2008, but Gods will be done. I have had a few small jobs here and there, but just to keep busy in my unscheduled "retirement". In 1988 my life took a turn for the best and I met the woman who would be my future wife. In 1991 tragedy struck when I lost my mother and oldest brother in a fire. My one condolence was that my middle brother survived and remains a blessing to me. In April of 2000 I proposed to my sweetheart, and in Dec. 2002 I married her. She has shown me that bitterness and anger only succeed in damaging your mental and physical well being. She has brought me to a closer relationship with the Lord. Through her I enjoyed raising her 3 children from a previous marriage, (2 lovely daughters and a handsome son). Her children have now provided us with 5 beautiful grandchildren (obviously not MY genes!)...2 boys and a ...Expand for more
3 girls. Now, at the age of 60 I face my own mortality and wish to make peace with the past. I went from being a hyper-hippie to a calm-conservative. Nothing is more important than ones relationship with God and loving and respecting all of His creations. Also, always keep your family dear to your heart, for God blesses us with one mother and one father and our unique siblings. I know I have offended and hurt some people in my past, so I just ask that you forgive me. I was immature, and really didn't know what life is all about. I know now that I won't know everything there is to know. Life is a great teacher, and I am still learning. The funny thing about that learning is you don't pass the test until you pass on. Through Gods grace I survived a coma, stroke, collapsed lung, heart infection and being laid off during recovery from my heart surgery. I am living with my COPD and have place my life in Gods hands. I'm not incapacitated but not as active by any means ...yet, so no violins, PLEASE! I don't need O2 and I can walk ....I dance ballroom style, but for less time than before, no more marathon dancing like in the past. My life is full, so if God decides my time is up, so be it. I am at peace. Workplace I guess my Bell Labs days were my best. I have an AOL email address. It's baldeagle4ei, write me if you want. Although the best times I had were at my job as a drug store clerk / driver at Diamonds Pharmacy, and Sal was like a father to me. A really great guy. We were politically opposed to each other, but he was fair and balanced, and as I lived life on my own, I saw just how right he was.
