Robert's Story
Okay, how do I describe 50 years in 20,050 characters? I graduated, and went to Brown Univ. for one semester. REALLY did not fit in there.... Came back, went to the U, then to U of U law school. Got married along the way, 2 terrific kids, divorced. Spent 3 years active duty in US NAVY JAG, and 5 years reserve in JAG (NO, it is NOTHING like the TV show, "JAG"). But it WAS really fun - Southern California in the late 1970s --, and got a lot of war stories. Marines (and sailors) could actually get in trouble doing things that normal people could not even think of!!!
Practiced law in SLC, got married again to my current wife (of 37 years) , Liz, who I met in JAG. She went back to school , got a PhD in psychology, and I got a masters in health administration. We went in USAF (LIz as a psychologist, I was in Medical Service Corps). This was supposedly just for one tour to see the world. That turned in to a career, totally by accident, because they kept offering us places we wanted to go. We were in Texas (of course -- as they say "join the nNavy, see the world. Join the Air Force, see Texas,), Turkey , England, Spain, Texas (again) and Panama, then Utah (Hill). I retired from the USAF when we were in Panama. Travel? Yep. Pretty much all of Europe, North Africa (Except Libya and Algeria), Indian subcontinent, North & South America, Israel, Never been to Australia, China, Japan, or Antarctica. Been to Russia for an interminable stop in Moscow on Aeroflot .

my two kids from my first marriage, we have three kids , all pretty much grown (whatever that means); My stepson from Liz's first marriage paseed away from an inherited disease in 2017, one son (our own biological son, 37 years old), and an adopted daughter, Hilary (the baby, now 27). As we say, we have his, hers, ours, and somebody else's. Two grandkids. We lived in SLC, then moved to Moab for a while, now back in SLC.
I left the Mormon church many years ago, and eventually Liz and I converted to Judaism (for some very synchronistic and mystical reasons I won't go in to here....). I went on from there with much deeper studies and enrolled in a Rabbinical Seminary in New York and was ordained as a Rabbi about 19 years ago. We had a small Jewish- Interfaith group in Moab, and another new one in Salt Lake underway with classes in Jewish Mysticism, Shabbat offerings, Intro to Judaism, mythological studies, and other basically fringe-stuff. I write (occasionally), perform weddings all around Utah, funerals, teach Bar/Bat Mitzvah students, etc--- the range of Jewish life-cycle events.
Through another unpredictable series of events, I also now find myself back in law practice in SLC with a plaintiffs' litigation firm, representing whistleblowers in Federal False Claims cases around the western states.
So, at least it hasn't been boring! non-linear, unpredictable, yes. But not boring.....
Glad we're having a 55 year reunion!!!!
