Roberta's Story
I received a BA from U of I in the teaching of English and French, then returned to Bowen at age 20 to teach English, Journalism and Speech. Got married to Bowen/U of I classmate Gary Morris after my first year, got my masters in English Language and Literature after 2 more years. Eventually taught for a year at Southeast Junior College (in the CVS building). Had my first son in 1968, #2 in 1969, #3 in 1970 and #4 in 1972.
In 1969, we moved to Michigan for 2 years because my husband Gary being a doctor and the Viet Nam War going on, he had to serve. We returned to Chicago in 1971 and settled in the northern suburbs, where we've been ever since. nto the business world, going back for an MBA and working at 4 different packaging companies for 26 years before retiring from my job as Global Marketing Director for Scholle Corporation.
I was also (and still am) a very active community volunteer with many interests and hobbies, among these running Bowen reunions every 10 or so years. (Our 20th was actually in our home--everyone still remembers it fondly. We also had a teacher reunion in our home a few years back that was a real hoot.) Some of my interests are travel (over 80 countries and still going); gardening; birdwatching and nature; classical music; theater; movies; cooking and entertaining; and, of course, family and friends. Gary still practices about 3/4 time as an ophthalmologist in Skokie.
