Roberta's Story
I grew up in Saint John, went to Prince Charles Elementary, then to Winter Street School.
Apparently I died in a fire when I was 11...Story on my bulletin board... Moved to Millidgeville when I was 12 years old. Attended Princes Elizabeth JH. Then to VOC for High School, took Commercial Art there. Transferred to Millidgeville High to finish.
Worked at the Dr. Wm. F. Roberts Hosp. School, before getting married and having 1 daughter. That marriage lasted 4 years. Shortly after that, my daughter and I moved to Toronto for about 4 years.
I returned to Saint John for a few years. Due to illness in my family.
I met a wonderful guy, Ken Stevens, and we're still together, just over 30 years. We had a son shortly after moving to, Edmonton, Alberta, 28 years ago. We are still here and still happy. We have yours, mine, and ours.
The things I miss about Saint John most are, the ocean, oh and maple leaves in the fall. I miss soft water too!!!
I have been a Special Needs Educator with the Edmonton Catholic School System for over 20 years, working with severe behavior disorder children, and teaching techniques to other educators. I love my work...but I'm gettin too tired for this... lol
You notice I didn't say "too old"...
I have just connected with my first love through Classmates. Quite the rush I must say....
Something very important to me is world hunger. If you want to have a GREAT, feeling Sponsor a child in a problem country. It doesn't matter what agency you use, but the feeling is great! And if each of us sponsored 1 child no one would go hungry...
I figure if I can live this life style I can help someone else.
The most memorable things back then were the Friday and Saturday night dances, and the West End Legion also the YMCA, and St. Peters Church on Sunday afternoons, the coffee houses, the jam sessions... Was anybody there???
At this point in my life I try to enjoy everything and everyone. And let the people I love, know just how much I do love them... I think that's very important!!!
I had a very special friend visit a while ago, and he reminded me that whatever we do at this age, enjoy it, find the beauty in the very little things, and the big things will take care of themselves.
He took me flying and I thought,"what tiny specs we are in this vast universe," So when I go back to teaching, next week, I'm going to look at each young person, smile, and try to say something special to each and everyone of them each day. Because if we don't make a child feel good they will be lost in the vastness....
To be continued...
Well I said this would be continued so I guess it's about time I added something.
I do try to say something nice to each child every day. I also try to say something positive to my coworkers each day.
I have seven grandchildren, and one great grand child. I had custody of two of them for almost a year. They are back with their mom now and doing great. Thank God! I don't recommend trying it. Being the grandparent is enough for me, but they sure taught me a lot!
Children teach me so much and they are so interesting. They are very nonjudgmental and without adult influence, very accepting. Too bad we as adults ruin them....
I wonder what old or new people I will come across on Classmates. I find it very interesting, although I wish more people would leave messages. It doesn't matter if we know one another. We all have a common thread, "Saint John." Those of you who chose to stay there have a way to help us keep in touch with our younger selves... What a gift:)
I have connected with some very special friends from my early childhood and I am so thankful for that. I hope you do too.
To be continued...
I was just browsing through the "Story Wizard" ha ha... One question is, "What happened to your first crush?" And another was, "Do you still dress like you did 10 or 20 years ago?"
I just saw my first love a few weeks ago, and he commented on how great I looked in the outfit I had on... LOL... No I dress more stylish now!!! And I st...Expand for more
ill love him dearly!!!
How's that for answering questions???
Later...
Reading Story Wizard again...LOL...
How do I hope my old friends remember me? Well after the fire incident: ALIVE would be good!!! I really hope they remember me as Fun... I love to dance, even today, didn't drink, or do drugs, even though most of my friends did. I was always DD, even though we didn't know it back then. I was the only 16 year old with a car. A red and white Chevy Bel Air, man I loved that car! And so did a lot of other people:)
DANCING, DANCING, DANCING, That was me!!!
Reminiscing Is great!

I have always had a major problem...I hate it when someone says they will do something and they don't do what they say...And then they turn it around and make you the bad guy, by bringing up something totally unrelated so they don't feel so guilty!!!
When I say I'll do something You can be sure I'll do it unless I'm in the hospital and the wheel is off the gurney!!!
Some things we say we will do may not be so important to us, but can be VERY important to the other person...
To not carry through with what you say you will do, is heart breaking and also breaks trust...
And trust is the most important thing between people... If you can't trust, you can't; depend, rely, be safe, confide, share, be uninhibited, or be intimate...
There are many qualities a person can have, but trust is the single most important quality in a person! It means the difference between hurting or healing a heart...

Just had 2 weeks off running about the mountains and other places... It's sooo beautiful and I met so many interesting people...
I love people!!! They make life so much fun!!!
I went rock climbing with a bunch of kids and amazed them with my ability to keep up... I had to go to the Chiropractor for a tune up the next day, but all's good, didn't break anything, not even a nail:)... I had a great time:)
Some of my friends think I'm crazy running around the country by myself... But I have always done it... I may wake up in the morning and decide to hop in my car and go somewhere... (I'm a fly by the seat of my pants girl)... And I won't change unless I want to... It keeps me interesting and alive!!!
The people I know, my age are boring, no risk, be safe,(to the point of paranoid), I refuse to live like that...
I still don't lock my doors... and I live in a big city... Of course I have scary dogs to get past:)
Theresa just mentioned something about my storm cloud pictures... She said she would have been scared... I love storms!!! If I lived in "Tornado Alley" I'm sure I would be a storm chaser... I love the Thunder and Lightning... The louder and closer the better... My kids love storms too... My animals don't even get nervous whn a storm comes and that's unusual for animals... Hmmm???
Enough for now... Later...

Well the year is coming to an end...
I have become a great grandmother!! Gotten a little more fit, tried to improve my style, worked very hard on a very special relationship and feel that I've made a bit of progress:) I also have worked very hard on having a better relationship with myself, that still needs a lot of work...I quit smoking and lost weight:)
I don't make New Years resolutions... I just try to be a better person than I was the previous year... So we'll see what that brings... I hope more love from someone special^_^
That's it for now.... Later
