Robin's Story
I graduated from Sac State in 1987 with a degree in Criminal Justice. I took a temporary job with the Sutter County Probation Department. When that ended, I moved to the Bay Area in 1988 and went to work for the Santa Clara County Probation Department. I got married to an amazing man in 1995. He's a firefighter, he does dishes, he makes me laugh, he's adorable and he lets me have control of the remote. Not too bad. I have two stepsons who are 25 and 26 and we have a beautiful and intelligent 19 year old daughter who is getting ready to begin her sophomore year in college. I resigned from the Probation Department in 1998 to be a stay-home mom, which was the best decision I've ever made. I went back to work part-time in 2004 as a Library Media Assistant and have been there ever since. It's such a fun job. I see almost 400 students each week, ages 5 - 10. I read to them, teach them how to use the library and get them excited about books. It's difficult to contend with technology, television and video games, but it's a challenge I absolutely love....Expand for more
When I find that just right book for a student who may have struggled in reading or just didn't like the library, it makes me want to do my happy dance. ;) Plus they make me feel like such a rock star. They don't care if I'm having a bad hair day or if my socks don't match, they're just happy that I showed up, have a smile on my face and a great book to read to them
My husband and I are approaching retirement in a few years and may possibly be moving back to the area. My family members have all moved away from Yuba City. However, we love the Nevada City area and all it has to offer, so not too far from Yuba City / Marysville. In my free time I dabble in photography, writing and mixed media projects. Some of my photos were sold in the San Jose Museum of Art gift shop; something I was very proud to have been able to do. Maybe someday I'll actually be in the museum, who knows. I love to garden, take walks, listen to records on, yes, a record player, hang out with my husband, family and friends.
I feel very fortunate to have the life I have.
