Robin's Story
Hi to all of you! Shortly after graduation, I was accepted into a summer school program in Norway. I spent 2 1/2 months in classes and touring England, Sweden, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany. I arrived home just in time to attend orientation at the University of Montana (Go Griz!). I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with minors in math and computer science. My first teaching assignment was at the McKinley School in 5th grade. I also volunteered to be the pianist for the 160-member 5th and 6th grade choir. In 1981, I was asked to teach 7th and 8th grade math at East Jr.High(formerly Butte Junior High). I also taught computer programming in the Gifted and Talented Program. When East became a middle school in 1990, I continued to teach math and was appointed Team Leader an...Expand for more
d Chairman of the Math Department. I earned my Master's Degree in School Counseling in 1984, and I moved into the Counseling Department in 2000. Now in my 45th year with the Butte School District, I am unsure of when I will retire as I truly love my job! When my Mom passed away in 2013, I inherited our family restaurant, Matt's Place, so that also takes a great deal of my time.I have been married to Brad Cockhill (Class of 1964) for 43 years, and we have two beautiful daughters, Brittany Downey and Lauren Hafla. Both of them gave us one grandson each, Holt and Gehrig. Holt lives in Butte, so attending his sporting events keeps us busy; and Gehrig lives in Elko Nevada, so we travel to see him whenever possible. All in all, life is good and hopefully, Brad and I can start smelling more roses in the near future.
