Robin's Story
For those of you that don't remember me, I was sub-standard sized and had a lot of hair. Joanie Houghton and I were joined at the hip since 3rd grade. (She moved out here years ago and we live 5 miles apart.)I went to U.L.Light Jr. High and Washington Elementary I grew up in the projects on 8 Spry Drive and life was not boring.
I remember the summer race riots, the demonstrators dragged chains and marched up and down Snyder Avenue chanting, "We Shall Overcome." I was scared witless before ...Expand for more
bricks started coming through the windows. (The projects brought it on themselves because they would not rent to blacks. The projects were all white. The rioters could destroy the projects and never hurt one of their own.
The most amazing part is that when I went to school at U.L.Light Jr. High, no one knew what I was talking about. It wasn't on the news and I can't say about newspapers.
I loved Barberton and I had a fantastic childhood growing up in the project That's where I got my BFF.
