Robin's Story

Life After college, got married after 3 years out of school and lived suburban life in Westchester County, NY. Had an apartment for the 1st 3 years of marriage in New Rochelle, NY where I was working at a bank. My wife and I bought our 1st home in Ardsley, NY 1980 and welcomed our son there in 1983. Our daughter arrived 4-1/2 years later at the Ardsley residence in 1987 but, within one year, we moved into our 2nd home in 8/1988. Upheaval came a year later when I lost my job but, in spite of everything, held tough and kept things going until I got back into a steady position in 1993. Can say things went fine but, not as fine as always. My wife and I divorced in 2002 with me moving out and living for the 1st 3 years in Union City, NJ. Always wanted to live in an urban area and got it - bachelor at 50 and living right across the Hudson River from Manhattan! Spent many time either in Manhattan or down the hill in Hoboken. My bachelor pad was sold out by the landlord in 10/2005 and, if things are said to come full circle, moved in with my brother (a divorced man as of 2004) on a estate in Wayne NJ. 2 bachelor men in a huge estate house with 10 acress of grounds; wildlife in the backyard; and, rooms galore. Who said life doesn't get any better as you get older?! School The Sisters of Mercy from my grammar school days and briefly, at Holy Trinity HS encouraged all of us to do well in life. As to my HS days at Blessed Sacrament HS in New Rochelle, NY; it was Brother Rottino who inspired me to get out beyond the world of New Rochelle and aided me in learning how to accept responsiblity for my career and education path outside of others. Made a lot of good friends from my days at Our Lady of Mercy grammar school and miss them the most of anyone from my school years; especially, after Dad moved the famly from Long Island to New Rochelle in 1967. College My Villanova University days were among the best four years of my life. Made friends with a very ecelctic group of people and developed a life time hoby, photography, while there....Expand for more
Got so good at the hobby that many the time the question is asked if I had another career to choose, it would involve my 35mm equipment (will admit I got encouraged seeing James Stewart in Alfred Hitchocock's movie, "Rear Window," and caught on to the places his character visited). The 4 years went through very turbulent times in US history. After the 1968/69 years of turmoil, we had Nixon's relection and self-ejection from office after graduation in 1974 due to Watergate. Got hit with the oil embargo after the Yom Kippur war which unfortunately put the US economy into a tail spin for about 3 years. Graduate school at Pace University for my MBA came 10 years after undergraduate years ended. Work days and spent nights studying while having 2 children and running a house with my their mother. Was a great sense of accomplishment to get that degree after 4-1/2 years of night school while we had a 2nd child and we moved into our 2nd home. Too bad I was fired 3 months after I got the degree! Workplace Spent 14 years working for various banks and, after the consolidation of the industry during 1989 to 1993, spent 7 years as a bank regulator. How bad was the consolidation in the Northeast? 80% of the people I knew from my bank officer days (1975 to 1993) are no longer employed in any aspect of the industry; be it bank employee, bank regulator or consultant. My present career is as management consultant in the Wayne, NJ area whose career takes me places people dream they could go to. I get paid to speak candidly to solve problems and use my keen wit and a dry but wry sense of humor to do so. I provided risk management and regulatory compliance services/solutions to commercial banks, thrifts, brokerage houses, mortgage bankers and money service business. My operating philosophy can be summed up as follows - People who say it cannot be done; we do not do it that way here; and, you cannot teach old dog new tricks will never accomplish anything in life by not trying! Military Neither was drafted nor did I volunteer for military service
