Robin's Story

Life Recently (8/05) lost my dog, Fred. He was a pure bred Chow Chow - black/red. He was truly my boy! My business is named for him - Fred's Finest Pet Treats. The following morning, I knew I had to get another pup, so went right out to the SPCA and adopted Sydney, a Redbone Tic Hound. She's a sweetheart! The picture is of me and Sydney at a birthday party for a friend's dog. The waiter had just given the dogs a piece of bacon -happy pups! I also have two rescue cats - Sammi and Sasha. They are my family and I love spending time with them. My life is wonderful. I wake up every morning and go to bed every night with a smile on my face. It's a good feeling to be happy. I do strictly holistic care for my pets, meaning no annual shots or poor quality food. My dog eats raw and the cats eat only natural. They are happy and healthy and that makes me happy as well. As time permits, I volunteer at the St. Petersburg Free Clinic. If it's not helping with fund raisers then it's organizing food donations during the holidays. My father generously provided me with some of his old workshop tools, so I'm usually working on some sort of project here in my home. I enjoy remodeling various rooms (such as both baths) and the satisfaction of doing it myself. Now I have to start preparing my 20x20 veggie garden in the back portion of my property. I have to start planting in October so my tomatoes, cukes, onions, herbs, etc. will all be ready come December. Nothing beats preparing dinner with veggies and herbs just picked from your own garden. College Getting a 4-yr degree in 3 years was a huge accomplishment for me. Lots of hard work, especially since I did this at night while working full-time at Eckerd College as Director of Research in the Development Office, but well worth the effort. Will always remember my classes and friends I met while there. Still keep in contact with several of them. Surely surprised my family when I ended up with science ...Expand for more
degrees! No one (including me!) ever saw that coming! My major was in Environmental Studies with a minor in Marine Environment. Workplace Am working full time out of my home making homemade pet treats: Fred's Finest Pet Treats. Business more than tripled in just over two years and now I'm 7 years in this business. I have fun vending at various Farmers Markets (no flea markets). Am having the best time! This is my kind of "work". Sit outside in the sunshine, enjoying meeting new people and seeing old friends, and watch their dogs having fun. It's always a good laugh when I see a regular approaching me and they let go of the lead saying to their dog "got get Robin!" and they come running straight to me. You can find out more about where I vend at the Saturday Morning Market website in St. Pete. For fun and relaxation, I love going to Boyd Hill Nature Preserve and walking the 3-mile path. Get up close with Florida wildlife (yes, including gators!) and fauna. Nothing more relaxing. Love going to the Tampa Bay Rays games as well! I love our team. Only live 8 minutes from Tropicana Field so my neighbor and I head down frequently for games. Her husband drops us off and picks us up after the games. Works out great! We have our Rays gear on and cowbells in hand. Go Rays!! Some are trying to encourage me to join the "Second Time Arounders" here in St. Pete. These are older individuals who used to play in a marching band or twirl baton. Some came thru Market a few months ago and I ended up with one of the batons. My fellow vendors were cheering for me as I showed them I still got it! It was fun but don't think I want to do that again. It would be fun though - they are going to the Rose Bowl Parade (2010). But have no plans to join. What else can I say? Life is good. I enjoy what I do for a living, have some good friends, own a nice house, have my own veggie garden and the Tampa Bay Rays just down the street! What more could a girl ask for!!
