Shiela's Story
Life
I grew up in San Jose. I went to LeyVa Jr.High school and then started at High school at Silver Creek in 1984. I was a JV cheerleader for one year, then our family relocated to Southern California for a year. We moved back to the bay area and I was not granted permission to resume at Silver Creek so I had to attend Independence High School. I had lots of fun there and met some really neat people. I graduated in 1997. I worked summer jobs while in High School at Lockheed Missles & Space and at Togo's Eatery and Payless Drug Store (now Rite Aid).
After High School, I attended San Jose State Univ for two semesters and decided to go to Sevilla, Spain for a Semester. I lived with a Spanish family and went to college there. I really enjoyed the culture, the change of environment and learning Spanish from the natives. I traveled to various parts of Europe. When I returned to California I applied and was accepted to UC Berkeley. I finished my undergraduate work there and graduated in 1992. My BA was in International Business. I worked at IBM Corporation during my years at Cal and stayed on after graduation. I was then transfered from IBM San Francisco to IBM in Phoenix, AZ. I lived in Phoenix for a year in 1994-1995 and decided...Expand for more
I wanted to come back home. I lost one of my brothers in a car accident, my boyfriend at the time was in California and I just wasn't having much fun in Phoenix as I thought. Thankfully I knew a friend that worked at Visa USA in Foster City. She took my resume and a few weeks later I was on my way back to California for a job with Visa. I started working for Visa in 1995 and am still employed with them today. In 1998 I started Graduate School at Cal State University-Hayward, but my job required traveling and the class schedules at CSUH wasn't working for me. A friend told me about Holy Names College- a small, private school in Oakland hills. HNC had a weekend program that fit my schedule and I fell in love with the campus and small class room sizes. I graduated with my MBA in Spring 2001. I also got married in the summer of 2001, to Andrew L. Lanham, Jr. We lived in Hayward, then moved to San Ramon. In March of 2003 I found out I was expecting our first child. We bought a new home in Antioch in the summer of 2003. Our first son was born on November 14, 2003. Jaden Elijah Lanham. Weighed 6 1/2 lbs, 14 1/2 " long. He has my dimples and eyes, his dad's head and mouth. He is a sweetie pie. We are enjoying our home in Antioch.
