Robyn's Story
I didn't attend many school activities- I worked nights, painted portraits or made jewelry on my time off. But I did have a portrait tour in an exhibition and I was flown to Anaheim,CA to represent Craigmont for the Nat'L Decca(DE) Awards in '77. That was fun, including going to Nashville for the State Competition. I also loved taking radio broadcasting two years and helping during Summer Break. At 16 I got a break when I sold 100 earrings to the JJ Morley store in the mall and by age 23 I worked at US Male and sold my jewelry in their stores & at Chelsea's in Overton SQ. At the same time, I purchased a small concert lighting system and operated the light shows for my husband's bands The Beat Cowboys, Boys Say No and also for Debra DeJean after he left The Crime band. The biggest show I did was the 1984 Billy Idol show on Mudd Island but obviously I used their lights. At 30 I divorced & managed Clarins Cosmetics at MMCohn & Goldsmiths Oak Court, then managed Robert Irwin Jewelers in Bartlett. e House of Blues venue at DisneyWorld and at nights I'd pick up some extra cash by selling merch for the bands at concerts. In 2006 I married and moved to Daytona where my husband ( an audio engineer aka concert soundman) was thrilled to finally be off the road! He loved working with the top artists/bands but does not miss "living" in hotel rooms, tour buses and airports for 30 yrs! Now he mixes sound in FL for large Corporate events with live music so at least he's only gone a few days at a time instead of a few months. I stay busy with my jewelry website Backstage Attitudes and last year I had new designs cast so I'm excited. I took a casting class at Mphs College of Art in 1985 but it's cheaper to hire out the work than to own the equipment. On days off I love to work in the yard, fish or go to the beach 3 miles away. I have a 31 yr old daughter who works at The Med in Memphis as a Certified Medical Coder and a 19 yr old son who got his AA degree from Daytona State 2016. He's a "3 Palm" Eagle Scout and Black belt in karate who plans on a computer career.
