Rod Franklin:  

Life We have 7 grown children (4 boys, 3 girls), 5 have completed undergraduate work, 2 are working towards their Doctoral Degrees. We have 11 grand-children (we have a set of identical twin grandaughters, remember I was a twin, we both use our birth name now and he is listed under Richard Franklin) living in Or., Ut.and N.Y. Life has been terrific, 4 years in Naval Aviation, 5 years as a police officer (Las Vegas & D.C.)while I finished school in Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. area. Worked for United States Senator Howard Cannon (D-NV) from Nevada on the floor of the Senate as an assistant to the Chief Press Liaison Officer(I was a glorified page. Exciting times with Watergate, one of my roommates was involved - thought I knew who "Deep Throat" was? Worked as a bodyguard for Elvis twice in Vegas (my former partner was Chief of Security for the Hilton), traveled the Orient visitng places like Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tapei, Kuala Lumpor, Seoul, Hiroshima & Tokoyo. After a 3 month intensive language course in Provo, Utah I worked 2 years on social program with "La Raza" working with the Hispanic people of the American Southwest mainly in Colorado, New Mexico & Texas. Things I still want to do: (1)My wife and I plan to go on a Peace Corps mission or work mission with our Church in the Spanish Speaking world. (2)I want to write a book about Watergate and the Cuban Missile Crisis someday. Highlight in my life - (1)Frank Sinatra had me fired once (over Jerry Rosenthal, wife of Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal- the lady played by Sharon Stone in the movie "Casino", by the way "Lefty" is a real gentleman). And he, Sinatra, spent $275,000 having my Uncle defeated as the D.A. here in Las Vegas after 2 terms. You can read Kitty Keely's Book about Sinatra. (2) Exposed the largest monetary fraud & scam in Nevada History, the Las Vegas Sun called it the #1 story of their first 50 years. (3)I used to stand behind the curtain when Elvis was performing in order to keep some lady from grabbing him while he performed at the Hilton. (4) As a police officer I walked up to "Red Buttons" once in the Airport here and asked him why he looked so familiar to me? He said "thanks I must make a big impression" and burst out laughing. (5) I just sold a home to Tom Jones (actually he is the #1 Tom Jones impersonator in the world, Harmik Kazanchian and he sings better), (6) Howard Hunt of Watergate fame threatened to have me fired if I didn't give him access to Cannon House Office Building at 12:30AM. (I kept my job & he went to jail) My greatest quote is the admonition of the Apostle Paul,"Only when you are unfraid of truth will you find it." And Rosemead Class of 1961, there's more to come!!! Life's not over yet!!!! My headstone will say "Isn't there any more, I want the instant replay!" We head to Japan Feb 7th, Tokoyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Murigame and back School I liked all the girls, 9 to 90! Mr. McFann(Gov't),Mr. Sacchette(Hist.)Mr.Filloon(Photography)Mr.Williams(Journalism)and Mr. Dennis (for inspiring me about Naval Aviation). It was a great feeling to come back later with portraits that had hung in the Nat'l Loan Collection of the Professional Photographers of America (PP of A)and receive Mr. Filloons complement-that meant more to me than the accolafes of my peers.
