Rod's Story

So when I went to UCLA in the late 70s I pledged this fraternity called Phi Kappa Psi It was pretty roudy and no disrespect to the guys who continued on ,but I was out of there as soon as I could be. Brotherhoos is good but beer and pizza for breakfast was not my cup of tea. There was this program that opened up that helped me confirm my career destiny and it was called The Immersion Program ran out of the Psychology Dept. There were about 12-16 of us and we lived in the Tonner Canyon BoyScout Time's Training Facility in Brea. We took classes there on site , at Frank Lantermans Hospital and We worked ...Expand for more
at the Hospital with profoundly disabled and in the Pomona City School District with the Educably Disabled. It was more of a learning opportunity than a working opportunity.. It did, though< help me relize that I didnt want to be a child psychologist or work with the disabled. I do respect those that commit their lives to this calling ,but this helped me to continue on to get my MD and Board Specialty n Family Practice So it was back to school to complete Physics and Organic Chem(yuck) and off to Guadalajara for Medicine and back to USC/LAC for residency Then I practiced in Brea for 20 years which I loved
