Rodney's Story
School
High school was a great experience. It gave me an opportunity to see how I could shine. I participated in student leadership a lot, and I feel like I did a really good job with it. I was also selected to attend American Legion Boys State during the summer before senior year. It was fun, and it was a real honor. High school was a lot easier compared to what I'm doing now, and I never see any of my old classmates anymore. There was one person in high school who definitely had an impact on my life and who inspired me. That person was my shop teacher, Mr. Thornton Green. He was the person who I could talk about anything and the only person who I felt really understood me. We have so many similarities now. He went to the military at 17. I went to the military at 17. ran. I'm a war veteran. We share some of the same hobbies and interests, and we're really good friends. Out of all the people in high school who I came into contact with, he's the one who had the strongest effect on me. To this day, I still look up to him as a role model. I feel like my experiences at Grady, both good and bad, helped shape me into the person I am now, and that's a person who I'm happy with.
Military
I joined the Air Force in 2004, and was assigned to the 60th APS at Travis AFB, CA. I worked in Ramp Service for a little over three years, I've deployed twice, and I'm now working in Combat Readiness. I've had lots of experiences in the military, both good and bad. I'm a proud combat veteran (Afghanistan), and I'm glad that I have been able to do my share for my country.
