Rodney's Story
Life
Well, I new I would always own my own business but I never figured I would be "The Ice Cream Man". I now live in Racine Wisconsin and own about 80 Ice Cream Trucks. Yep, That's right 80 of the most annoying things you will hear running down the streets delivering Ice Cream to maybe some of my old classmates children. I started the company Jensen Vending Co. in 1986. We service the towns between Gurnee, IL and Milwaukee, WI. So If you are between and you see the little white Ice cream Trucks "Blaring" Yankee Doodle or Pop goes the Weasel. It is probably one of my trucks. I have been married for almost 11 years to my beautiful wife Cathy. We have Twin boys that are 10 (Anthony & Tyler) and Joey whom is 8. I spend most of the time with my boys riding dirt bikes. We race Supercross on the weekends in Lake Geneva on Friday nights all spring and summer. In the winter we Arenacross around the states. I still love Riding my 1980 Low Rider in the summer and snowmobile up north as often as I can. We are in the process of purchasing a home in the U.P for renting out to Snowmobilers and Skiers. It is in the small town of Bessmer, MI right next to the snowmobile trail and the ski hills. (Indianhead, Powder Horn, and Blackjack). We have been staying up there and figured it would be nice to have a place of our own. Info on rental 262-989-9232. I hope there will be plans of a reunion so we can all get together again after 20+ years. I moved shortly after high school to California then Wisconsin. I have only been through Carpentersville and Hoffman Estates a few times without running into anyone I new. So a reunion would be the event of the year. Thanks for reading Rodney
School
Well, It started at Sunny Hill in C'Ville. Boy I haven't heard that word in decades. (C'Ville). My kids don't understand, walking to school was not a choice, but I remember that was the best part. From meeting up with the kids that had to walk past our house on Tepee, to getting into a fight after school with John Fredricks or Kevin Miller. Just because you had said something about the girl they had liked or disliked that week. Boy did we have a full day. Hey! Obviously some of you reading this don't have a clue but that is because I went to Sunny Hill and Hickory Hill Then moved to Hoffman Estates and Graduated from Fremd High School in Palatine. All the old friends that come to my mind just typing this is a rush. Steve Eldridge, Kim Rittle, Carolyn Mashewshi? ...Expand for more
Kevin Miller, John Fredricks, Rob Rokuseck, Chris Arnott, Benny Swalar, Joann Norton, Monica Kempke, Scott Zuchristian, Martha, Sherry Fure, Sherie Husiel, Chinto and all the people my sister used to hang with. Well now I'm really going. Next was Hickory Hill Jr. High. 3 years of Hell!!! 6th, 7th, 8th. Being in Band was kind of a club in itself but I think we got out of another class or something. Why else would we have gone! Then P.E. class playing a game that you would probable go to jail for if you did it on the freeway charged with road rage! MURDER BALL of course! If you got hit with a ball that the big dudes threw you were done! How about the Dances that we had what a joke. (Laughing so much) And I seem to remember they gave our class in like 6th grade a recess be cause we were the most obnoxious student these teachers have ever seen (so they said) But we got a recess to burn off extra energy or something. Tell me someone else remembers that!! Well Graduation came and we moved to Hoffman Estates where my parents thought we would stay in the same district but we were on the wrong side of the street to stay at Barrington High School. I had to go to Fremd High. Some of you guys are now chiming in on the scene...
I did not have a whole lot of friends in High school but the ones I made were great. You know who you are!!! Sam Baker, Dan Cooper, Michelle Gardner, James Heagney, Sam Bloodgood, to name a few (well I can't remember a whole lot more). I dated a girl from Streamwood High (Teresa Smith) so I did not date very many people from Fremd. I also graduated a year early to go off to school with my high school sweetheart. Well that did not pan out and off to UIC I went. I had taken some business classes and figured out a business strategy quickly. Buy Low Sell High good business. Buy High Sell Low Very Bad Business! So off to the school of Ice cream. I ran a small ice cream truck business in Racine, WI for a friend and then bought it in 1986. The rest is history. No more school for me!! And I don't miss it except for the dear friends I had made along the way. Rodney
