Rodolfo's Story
I go by the nick name of 'Rudy' and was associated with the Mighty Brahma Band where I played the cornet. Back in those days Freshmen were located at the middle schools (Memorial Jr. High). I graduated in May of '72 but did not attend the graduation ceremony because I was playing at another graduation dance with the Beto Leal and his orchestra band. That summer I worked as a carpenter's apprentice putting up the buildings at the Lulac Manor government assistance housing program. In late September, I joined the United States Marine Corps and went to training in San Diego, CA. and graduated from Boot camp in January of '73. I went for further training at Camp Le'june, North Carolina and was sent back to San Diego as a primary post. Late I '73 was applied for and was accepted into the U.S. Marine Security Guard program and graduated in March '74. I was sent to New Delhi, India to stand ...Expand for more
guard at the U.S. Embassy and also spent temporary additional duty in Kuwait and S'ana Yemen. I was then transferred to Mexico City, Mexico and later to Panama City, Panama. After 28 months of service over seas my enlistment ran out so I was Honorably Discharged and returned home in November of '76. I then found work as a Manager trainee with Pizza Inn and opened the restaurants here and in Alice. I then found work with Long John Silvers and for the next eight years I worked as a store manager opening Long John Silvers restaurants in Harlingen, Brownville, McAllen, Laredo, Del Rio and finally landed in Houston. I received a transfer to the Corpus Christi store and eventually worked my way back to Kingsville where I decided to leave the restaurant industry and attend college. I graduated with my Bachelors in '92, went to work for Child Protective Services until my retirement in 2012.
