Afi (Rodolphus)'s Story

"The most potent weapon of the oppressor is THE MIND of the oppressed." -- Steven Biko First, thanks to the many family members, close friends, and those I've met along my journey who have financially and psychologically helped maintain my sanity as I have struggled to overcome substance abuse and other challenges brought about by challenging the government and status quo institutions and indviduals. I haven't forgotten you and I shall repay you. My current activities still include fighting the Veterans Administration, being an official war and tax protester, and seeking affiliations that have platforms against ministerial profiteers wherever they may exist. Having gone deep into the bowels of the narcotics industry, my life has often been on the line--whether real or imagined. But, for the Grace and Mercy of The Creator, my physical existence here would have been over long ago. To place things in perspective concerning some of my angst about the VA, for example: I know of a man (and have documents from him to prove) that the VA Administration cut off both his legs when nothing was wrong with them. They cut his legs off so high on his torso that he uses a colostomy bag. Prior to that, he was declared insane (exact diagnoses in the file) and had $500,000 stolen out of his bank account in collusion with his attorney. That being said, I continue to use information to empower myself and transmit it to others. Part of that information is ultimately for spiritual development, which is fundamental for attaining Self Knowledge--a lifelong quest thus far. My practice of Liberation Theology seeks to explore positive elements of religious systems in pretext, context, and subtext to self-determination and self-definition. What might appear to be "actuality" may indeed be personal and collective reality based on illusion and miseducation. Yet, I continue to observe "adults" passing fairy tales to youth--future generations, which maintain systems that deny spiritual development on a large scale. What is our theological praxis in building community other than systems we have adopted rather than insituted during antiquity? What historical "truths" and actualities are in contradistinction to distortion, innuendo, and outright lies as concerns humanity's cosmological, cosmogonical, and theological worldview and practice? What are the possibilities beyond individual materialism? Health, spirituality, and liberation theology can't be separated. So, my suggestion is that we learn what you are and who you are in context to the current socio-political paradigm. In time, we will have a very spiritually enlightened, healthy, highly educated (not mis-educated), and prosperous community that overstands the synthesis of politics as it relates to economic determinism. This is one of the reasons I am able to be open with you and the world. I have nothing to hide, which means that rumor and pre-supposition become insignificant. The best of intentions can often become mutations of negativity. That being the case, an exercise in minimizing participation in bloodletting for survival rather considerations of "quality of living." Moderate analyses of alternative health practices have revealed prevention and intervention strategies as well as health disparities among various populations. I remember years ago when Dr. John Moore would travel to Greensboro from New York and educate those who would listen concerning herbology. At the time, Burleigh Webb (Faruq Abdul Hakim) and I would go into the woods with him and others to learn about vegetation beneficial to health. Eventually, that knowledge was identified as being part of Self and I attained the maximum level of health. Even my bowel movements had no odor. Of course, meditation and prayer as part of spiritual development was key. Part of my belief system includes the lifelong exchange of information and use of the concept of "Freedom" to escape modern-day economic imprisonment. My life may appear to be a contradiction of my belief and actions. However, if I want to be a millionaire, I could do so at anytime by negating any moral obligation to Self and humanity; and by compromising my principles in business relationships (surely, a Madoffian characteristic). "Sealing the Deal" always has negative consequences to others in a capitalist modus operandi where greed and the negation of impact to others by our own personal actions is the rule. Bottom line? I still struggle when performing due diligence on my ability to make money in context to "how" it may occur. For instance, I once considered owning a McDonald's franchise. After investigating the negative global impact it has on millions of people, it is not an option for me. So, I minimized participation in promoting injustice, death and destruction by excluding the goal and objectives to own the franchise. The question becomes: What is the relationship between spiritual development, optimum health, blood money, fast food and quality of life? Based upon what level of The Tree of Life one is currently upon, to engage in enterprises of death negates Reciprocity. Then, too, many elitists dismiss online economics. Something online is better than nothing. In a capitalist world, you can be liberated without money, but you certainly are not liberated while in debt. So, the concscious, having a conscience, must consider capitalism and economic imprisonment in relation to overall well-being. There are a few tools to address systemic economic ills that speak for themselves--such as tax resistance or protest. But you cannot be afraid to implement them. And...you must absolutely know the law. Selecting choice-media to stay informed will expose the lies and sleights of hand used by corporatists and coup-mongers to repress, oppress, and enslave the entire world. An understanding of this is one of the most important aspects of "being." Am I status quo? No! Do I think that what happened in Nazi Germany cannot happen in our lifetime? No...to the contrary. me to shout kudos to those who are organizing the Dudley 1970 Class Reunion. Outstanding! None of the organizational speed with which this is occurring would be possible without evolving technology in many spheres. Consideration of tools beyond the cellphone, email, and network applications are extremely important. I've taken part in international conferences sitting at my computer and a few years ago participated in business roundtables originated in Washington, DC that included nationwide participants. The quality of input did not suffer and community network building did not diminish, it was enhanced. We don't always need to be face-to-face (f-2-f). Empowerment through use of communications technology is key in this Age of Information. If you don't know it and/or don't use it appropriately, the probability of digression and neo-exploitation will be extremely significant no matter what our current and apparent economic positions may be. A people who spends more money on cosmetics and material toys than education and functional tools has a monumental problem to confront in the near future. However, that is not apparent in and of itself when analyzing the effects of parental neglect or ignorance in the education of their children. If this doesn't apply to you, don't sweat it. However, what can one expect when allowing your enemy to educate your children? In essence, we will ensure and promote an economic prisoner mentality and status because we will be forging the inability to impact current information design, transmission, and acquisition. We will also be giving up the hope of once again becoming producers rather than consumers. As a colletive, it feels as if we have already passed the baton. We cannot afford to allow our children and future generations to know more than we do when it comes to vision. "Seek Knowledge from The Cradle to The Grave." They are not The Elders, we are!! Yet, we have adolescents who are generating four-figure incomes per week through drug sales and other illegal activities. And all of this continues to destroy The Community. I also suggest that we do our own research. Armed with data beyond the anectdotal, we should be able to craft interpretations that help construct strategies toward a higher quality of living for the majority--if not all. I know that may appear to be utopian. However, many of the African liberation movements of the 1960s were based upon self examination and the development of appropriate actions from those kind of analyses--block-by-block. And although some of those liberated countries are still embroiled in terrible civil wars, upon further investigation we realize that ffreedom fighters are still fighting for true independence--against colonial agents of imperialism. There appears to be several ideas of "community" that now exist in contradistinction to what community was when we were matriculating. I enjoyed visiting my teachers' houses right around the corner. I enjoyed going over to Drs."so and so." I value the memories of all the businesses that existed in the community. And "the community" was huge. From mom and pop shops to funeral homes to electronic repair, to bakeries, to launderies, to drug stores/pharmacies, to doctors and lawyers, to cafes/grills, to theaters, to nightclubs, to barbershops, to women's salons, to garages, to fish markets, to tailor shops, pool halls, to numbers running, to after-hours joints. It was all there. And don't forget the impact of temples, churches and colleges. Another thing: if you allow someone else to grow the food you eat, produce the clothing you wear, build the houses you live in, mis-educate you and your children, and use your women for sperm banks, then are you not in slavery no matter how great you feel? I'm going to cut this short and occasionally revise it. I give tribute to those who have passed before us and recognize that life is fleeting. To those of you who have raised your children not to be predators, congratulations. To those of you who have children that you deny, may The Creator change your heart. To those in misery psychologically and physically, may your burdens be relieved, may your pain disappear, may you be healed. Hetep! --------------------------------------- BIO Name: Afi G. Osakwe Born: Greensboro, North Carolina, November 14, 1951. I graduated from Greensboro Dudley High School in 1970. After spending 2 years, 2 months, and 12 days "of frequent involvement with military authorities of a discreditable nature" in the U.S. Navy, I was discharged at lesser rank than I entered, without a dime or transportation in Newport, Rhode Island. So much for the military. It took me 16 years to attain my B.A. in Political Science (International Relations) from North Carolina A&T State University. Life has many crossroads. I briefly attended North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC), and the University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill--Department of City and Regional Planning (Patricia Roberts Harris Fellow) before attaining an Masters in History (concentration African American, Summa Cum Laude) at North Carolina Central University (Durham, NC). My background includes having studied many religions and practiced several--including the religions called Christianity and Islam. May peace be upon us all. I have a plethora of unpublished material covering a broad range of subjects (actually was offered a contract with Vantage Press, 1990). My 40-years old poetry/prose manuscript is entitled "Scratch Analysis of a Forty-Year Itch." I continue adding to it. However, due to the depths of my negative practices, I slept the contract (just discovered it going through old papers recently). Currently, I am interested in online technologies, business partnerships-- both domestic and international, e-commerce, and developing my consultancy (Osakwe Associates International). As for organizational membership, I work with many people and institutions. I was divorced in April 2010. No children except the world's children.
