Roel's Story
My grandparents long time address was on Lee Street in Carrizo...on the summer of 68 they sold their property and moved to the outskirts of town. They enjoyed raising their animals, and I made new new friends.
At the end of the school year, summer of 77 I got on a bus to visit my mother. My thoughts were only for the summer and return back home and finish high school. Instead I learned it was my grandparents idea for me to move back with my mother. I registered at Gladys Porter High and quickly did I learn I was a few credit hours shy of graduating. I attended morning classes and by noon I walked home, ate lunch and headed out for a part time job at a plant nursery.
It was there that I came across one very attractive and beautiful lady. Her rebellious nature made it difficult as I was often caught staring. With my horrible Spanish and her limited English, the thought was I'll never have a chance.

year was near; I was still very interested on that one Mexican rebel. I sent her an invite to my graduation...I kept one eye on the lookout for her arrival and the other on the event... at the end of it all she was a no show...oh! well Roel it's time to move on.
That early summer after giving my week notice, this lady who avoided me for nine months, decided to walk up to me. With my horrible Spanish and her limited English we talked during a lunch break. That afternoon I drove her home, we dated and married six months later.
During the five years building off-shore oil rigs for Marathon Letourneau, I attended night classes at the community college. Once I completed my course, we decided to move north, along with our five year old child. We lived in San Antonio several years, attended evening classes at UTSA, and our two youngest were born shortly before moving to Dallas. We now live comfortably in the Garland area.
