Roger's Story

Life Born in Denver, CO. Moved to Wheaton, MN w/Helen in 1951. Helen married Cal in 1953. Craig was born in 1956. Good buddies with Denny Goggin, Mark Bohnenstingl, Eddie Bruns, Mike Wilson, Don Elleraas, Brent Nielson, Dean Johnson, and a few others. Enjoyed sports a lot more than any other part of school. In 1968, I went to Bemidji State to avoid Vietnam. I was on the baseball team as a freshman, but quit when I didn't make the first travel team. In 1969, I transferred to Moorhead State and lived with Boner, Eddie Bruns, Lunk, and Denny Bertram. I also made the baseball team, but after getting married to Marcy Lichtsinn, felt being a student was more important than baseball. After college baseball, I played town team baseball with Dumont and "Willie" (Mike Wilson), the best brother-in-law I ever had, for a couple of years worth of beer and many "As those Saints go marching on..." sing alongs. In 1972, Marcy and I moved to Hutchinson where we both taught. We had three children Eric ('77), Scott ('79) & Kimberly ('83). While in Hutchinson, I played all kinds of community sports & became a very accomplished tennis & racquetball player. Beginning in 1973, I taught school (Media Technology) in Hutchinson for almost 5 years. In 1978 I switched careers to go work for 3M in Hutchinson and worked there for alomst 7 years. In 1984, we moved to Nashville where I worked for Nortel Networks as part of the start up team for their Leadership Development Center. NT provided me with the opportunity to travel all over the world. In 1987, Marcy and I got divorced. In 1989, I got remarried to Jean Hurley...former co-worker at Nor...Expand for more
tel. In 1995, we had a "surprise," and my fourth child (Elizabeth) and Jean's first (Jean was 44) was born. In 2001, we built a new home and hope this is where we will stay!? (Didn't happen) In the summer of 2003, we celebrated Helen & Cal's 50th anniversary at Island Lake near Detroit Lakes. We've been going to Island Lake for almost 50 years (WOW!) Eric is married to Tiffany Dyer Denton. They are an "arty couple" who live in Hendersonville, TN Scott is an eligible bachelor living in New York City and working for a media production house called Shiloh. He recently had his commercial for the Cingular Black Jack phone playing on National TV> Kimberly lives in Knoxville, TN. She is Creative Director for the Apple Computer store there. Her and her fiance (Nick Huinker) are getting married near Knoxville on October 20th 2007. Elizabeth is in 6th grade at Blackhawk Elementary School in Eagan, MN. She is also following the "creative path" of her siblings. We also have two great Bichon Frise dogs...Biscuit & Gravy who are the loves of all of our lives. As the proud holder of the class rank 48th out of a class of 72, I've done way better than anyone, especially me, thought I'd do. I'm still playing competitive tennis and enjoying sports as a spectator. I still keep up with my Wheaton buddies: Boner; Elleraas; Mike & Vicki Wilson; Lynn Larson; Cheryl Brown; and ReNae Franklin (Schuller). In terms of Hutchinson, I'm still connected to Geoff & Kristi Docken and reconnected with Tom & Carol Dolder in 2003. With four children, a dog, a demanding career, and tennis and/or golf a couple of times a week...life is not dull!
