Roger's Story
Life
I am a Missionary in La Moskitia, the most remote region in Honduras, Central America. My wife, Katrina Ryan Engle, from Chicago, and I work with malnourished children, providing them with the nourishment they need, and with handicapped children, helping them to make contact with doctors and/or get to medical centers where they can receive the surgical help they need.
I have four children of my own and we always have a native child or two living with us. We work in a type of hybrid boarding school we developed called the House of Hope. House of Hope can house up to 65 children at once. We usually only have 35 to 40. e see and know what we are doing so they can get involved if they so choose. It also gives us a chance to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with family...
We have travelled all over Honduras. La Moskitia, or Gracias A Dios, as it is recognized by the government, is by far the neediest place in this country filled with need. I would like to hear from any of you who would like to know more about our life and work here.
My Hero
My hero is my wife. Many times Katrina has surprised me in the way she handles adverse situations. I believe, were it not for her ability to forgive and go on, this family would have long ago fallen apart.
She also surprises me in her mercy with other people. Suffice it to say, were there a modern, married version of Mother Theresa, I think she would be a lot like my wife.
