Hafa Adai from Guam, USA Growing up in Jacksonville, I would have never guessed I would end up 8,110 miles away on a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. For anyone not familiar with Guam, we are a US island territory in the North Western Pacific Ocean, 3,950 miles West of Hawaii. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t actually graduate from Lee. I didn’t like going to class and had to finish at Duval Central adult high school. Principal Prom refused to award me a Robert E. Lee diploma. I guess Principal Prom forgot to take my name off the school records because I’m still there and I still claim Robert E Lee as my high school. After graduation, I attended Daytona Beach Jr. College for a year, but had an apartment on the beach and spent all my time partying and dropped out. I was content working as an apprentice at NAS Jax and playing in a local band (not that one). I lost my college deferment and was drafted into the Army in 1969. Tried everything I could to avoid going, but despite all my efforts, I was inducted in February 1969. This was probably the best thing that could have happened to me.
