Roger's Story
I spent nearly all of my childhood on Bassett Heights. We had a bunch of boys my age to play baseball, to play cowboys, and to engage in BB gun battles. There were alot of attractive girls, but I didn't know what to do with them.
I wasn't having a very good time in high school, mostly because I was so shy. I quit school in my Junior year and joined the Army January 18th of '65. After training and 5 months in Berlin I was a grunt in Vietnam for 12 months. After 5 months in West Germany I volunteered to return to Vietnam, where I was in an advisory group until I left the Army in '68.
In July of '68 I married Carolyn Bennett of Collinsville, but we divorced in '87. Fortunately, we didn't have children.

assett Furniture Company i got a job at Martin Processing Company. It was a good place to work, and I had many friends there .
After my best friend, Tony Lundy, got a job with the Roanoke City Police Department I decided to join in 1973. I had a very interesting 27 year career there. I then worked with Carilion Health Care Police and as an armed security officer under contract with the Department of Homeland Security. I have been completely retired since December of 2009.
My current wife, Debbie, and I have been married since 1987. Our 21 year old son, Todd, is a Senior at Bridgewater College where he plays football and has an active social life. My favorite hobby has been watching him everyday since the day he was born.
