Roger Lee's Story

Life I graduated with honors from both Northern VA Community College and George Mason University - BS degree in Business Administration attending night school for many years. I retired as the Director, Energy Commodity Computing Systems, Defense Logistics Agency, Department of Defense. Married twice, and have three daughters and one grandson. My wife Judy and I have one daughter Alison who got a Masters degree and remarried in 2019. We built our dream home on 1+ acre waterfront lot on Leesville Lake, VA. I was the first President of our Home Owners Association for 4 years and a member of the Board of Directors for the Lake Association for 2 years. Workplace I am retired as a GS-15 from the Federal Government after 34 1/2 years of service. I love retirement and recommend it to everyone (have some hobbies and something to keep you busy). I spent my whole career in the Computer field starting as a Computer Operator, then Computer Programmer, became a Computer Systems Programmer, was selected as Chief of the Technology Department as a GS-13 and later promoted to GS-14. In 1993 I was selected as the Director of Telecommunications and Information Systems as a GS-15 which oversaw 4 Divisions and an Administration Office. pply mainframe systems. We also ran an Information Center managing Local Area Networks, PC acquisition, installation and maintenance and Unix Mini-Computers running applications and email systems. We also developed and maintained applications for fuel locations around the world submitting transactions for Jet Fuel, Motor Gasoline, Diesel Fuel and more for the Military and Federal Agencies. After numerous reorganizations, downsizing and title changes I retired as the Director of Energy Commodity Computing Systems. Military Served in the US Army Feb 66-Feb 69 and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant in less than 3 years which is rare. I was stationed at Cau Binh Loi, Vietnam outside Saigon for a year with the 525th Military Intelligence Group, then to Ft. Belvoir for a year.. I began my career with the Federal Gov as a GS-4, I worked for the Federal Government from 1969-2003. I retired May 2003 as a GM-15 step 10 at Ft. Belvoir, VA. Ft. Belvoir was also the place where I served my last 18 months in the military. I have 2 daughters and one grandson from my first marriage and one daughter with my wife of the past 39+ years. Hobbies My hobbies are boating, genealogy and woodworking and of course computers. I am a self taught woodworker and have made or repaired many woodworking projects and furniture for my family and friends.
