Roger's Story
School
High school was a disaster for me. I didn't fit in, socially, ethnicly, religiously, financially. Due to my insecurities, and my rotten home life, I tended to talk too much, and I was rarely able to focus on anyone, or anything.
I had few friends, and no social life, although I liked the vast majority of my classmates. It took the U.S. Marine Corps, Viet Nam, college and a great marriage for me to learn the error of my ways. I guess you could say I finally grew up.
College
Went to U. of I., Urbana, IL, after USMC. Three and a half years of agony. No money, no car, few friends, anti-war movement I didn't understand; in all, not any fun. Fortunately, I wasn't there for fun, or for a woman, or to party, or to protest.

ion, went to grad. school in chemistry, and had a successful 30 year career.
Workplace
Many years of graduate school, and more than 25 years in clinical labs. My wife used to say about me, "have test tube, will travel." Almost 10 different positions over those years, some as a consultant, some as an employee. Many employees, many tests, crazy hours, extreme time deadlines, weather didn't matter. I loved the work I did, and I was extremely proficient at it, but I cannot say I miss the pressures, although I do miss many of the people with whom I worked.
Military
USMC, 1965-68. Parris Island, Camp Pendelton, Camp Hansen, Okinawa. 11 months, 14 days, 6 hours and 25 minutes as a combat infantryman/field radioman in Vietnam. What more can be said?
