Roger's Story
After graduating from Whittier College I went into the banking industry and remained for forty years. In 1979 I returned to Whittier College and completed my MBA. I managed a capital markets division for nine years for a regional savings and loan and spent the last 17 years in the banking industry as a chief credit officer for a community bank. Donna and I got married in 1978 and are proud parents of three wonderful daughters. All of our daughters are educators: Two college professors and one junior high school teacher. Our youngest daughter Kasia was selected 2020 Educator of the Year for Orange County. As of this writing we've been blessed with a beautiful granddaughter and look forward to possibly a couple more grandchildren. Update: we have two granddaughters, Lily 7 years and Olivia 4 years. Update #2, our youngest daughter is the newest adjunct professor at Azusa Pacific University.
In 2000 I was diagnosed with melanoma.The surgery required the removal of approximately three inches of skin from my left temple. No additional procedure...Expand for more
s were performed since they felt that the surgery had created sufficiently wide enough borders beyond the tumor.In 2010 the melanoma returned and the surgeons removed fifty-one lymph nodes and the salivary gland from the left side of my neck. This surgery was followed by a year of interferon treatments. The first month of treatments involved heavy doses of interferon administered at the cancer center. After the first month I was self-injecting three days a week. In late 2011 I finished the injections. I'm currently doing well and on a schedule that requires CT Scans every six months.
So please be vigilant and protect yourselves and loved ones by knowing the early signs of cancer and getting checked. We all have a vested interest in eradicating cancer. I spend time each year helping our local ACS "Relay For Life" raise awareness and funds.
In late 2012 I created a bank consulting firm. I manage to stay busy a few days a month with clients and the rest of the time is spent playing golf, getting together with family, friends and traveling.
