Wow, from Brooklyn-Lionville's One Room School-Chalfont. After Graduating from Central Bucks in 65, I attended Shippensburg for 4 terms, took a break and worked in the buying office for Lit Brothers in Philadelphia. I was drafted into the Army and completed basic at Fort Knox. I was not sent to AIT but instead to The Air Defense Command for San Francisco at Travis Air Force Base. (yes the Army is Funny) after 7+ months of Nike-Hercules Missile operations,
I was sent to Vietnam, I arrived in Cameron Bay not having a valid Military Occupational Specialty, (I had never been to AIT) I was then sent to the 4th Infantry Division in Pleiku, which is in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. At first they were going to assign me as an 11B20 which is infantry lite weapons soldier but realized I had no AIT (advanced Individual Training) So they sent me to be interviewed for the Tactical Operations Center. I was given the duty of working with a senior officer to improve the information given to the Commanding General. That officer left and I continued preparing the daily briefing and related reports. Since we were an Infantry Division we were required to take an active roll in securing our area. We routinely were taken by truck or sometimes schnook (helicopter) to distant areas to sweep the area (walk thru it) looking for caches of food or weapons. Of course perimeter guard was an every other day duty. My tour was one year. I feel very fortunate to come home safely. Although we were support troops several in my company were killed or wounded during defoliation missions, on sweeps or just from the regular rocket attacks our camp was subjected too.
Next step was to finish College. I went back to Brooklyn and completed my BS in Marketing, an...Expand for more
d found a job in Gimbels Philadelphia's buying office, got married, tried to go to grad school at night but settled for a better job with Bambergers. After the birth of my two beautiful daughters I accepted a sales position with a manufacturer of woman's clothing. For the next 20+ years I traveled and sold to the largest retailers in America and Canada. Since I love to travel even going to Des Moines was interesting. With all those air miles helping I was able to take my family to Hawaii, Canada, California, Florida and they even got to England without me.
With the death of so many department stores that were my customers (think about all the great stores that are gone, I think I have sold them all) it was time for a career change. So in 1999 I went to work for Citibank, I got my Broker dealer License, my insurance license, my Mortgage registration, took my required lending and banking
classes and worked on Park Avenue in New York. Banking has really changed. People don't go to the bank very often, Direct deposits, online banking, and on line lending have replaced the efforts I made for them. So in 2014 I retired. Now I can spend time with my 2 girls who are married with children of their own. It is fun to be Grandpa. I can cruise. I have taken 3 cruises in the last two years. I can travel. I went to Spain last year, next year I am going to Germany. For almost 19 years I have been an active member of a Support group that travels and tries to help people. As a group we have parties, go all over to see community theaters, we celebrate anything and everything. I have been to Australia, Italy, Spain, the Caribbean, Canada, all through South Dakota, Wyoming Idaho, Utah and just about every state There is nothing like the Grand Canyon, The Road to Hana, Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Tetons, Mt Washington, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and even Gettysburg. There are many more adventures to come.
