Roger's Story
You want my story? Wow! Where does one began? Okay. It started in the 6th grade when my dad was transferred from Fort Worth to work at NASA so we loaded up the truck and moved to Pasadena. Texas, that is, with rain and a strong smell in the air. But! I met many new friends starting at Southmore Intermediate School. It was very tough for me because the schools were so advanced. I just new I was in trouble when the report cards came out.
I finally got to Sam Rayburn and I loved meeting more friends especially my best friend Bobby Wilkins and WOW what fun we had. In my sophomore and junior year I played on the golf team with Jamie Freisleben, Jimmy Duff and many other really good guys. The most terrible thing that happened next was my dad got transferred my senior year. I just hated that I could not graduate with my friends.
After high school I was drafted into the Army and placed in special weapons with a nineteen month tour in Germany. After the Army I started working for a geotechnical and environmental engineering ...Expand for more
firm that has remained my line of business for 38 years now. I did all the foundation inspection for the new Texas Rangers Baseball Stadium and also about a third of the new Cowboy's Stadium.
I do remember many of you and I wish I could go back and do it all over again. I do have to look at the school year book to remember some by their photo.
In 1975 I married a cute little blond from Sharpstown and in 1978 we moved to Arlington, Texas. We never had any kids. I guess we just worked all the time. I now am divorced for the past 15 years and travel with my job mainly up and down the west coast. My travels get long. I'm talking being gone from home for ten months out of the year.
So today I have a home when not on the road and it is located in Burleson, Texas just south of Fort Worth. If any of you are up this way I would love to see you and bring back some good old memories. I think what I have missed most in the past 40 years is my best friend Bobby Wilkins and all the fun we had.
Take care and I miss you all.
