Mary's Story
Life
When I went to Western High School between 1963-1966, I was
Mary Jane Roland. I got the business award of my senior
class in 1966 from Mrs. Sutherland, the typing and shorthand
teacher. I worked in the office after school, on the switchboard, and remember a huge mimiograph machine.
I remember having to run down the hill to the field when
gym class was in and having to run back up into the building,
and husting to get to the next class. Mrs. Fox was my gym
teacher. I remember our 1986 class reunion in D.C., where I
saw lots of former classmates and teachers. I have lost

ack of some of my classmates, and wonder where they are today . . .I live in Northern Virginia, in Ashburn.
College
Worked full time and went to University of Maryland in the
evening. Carried full loads, so I was exhausted most of the
time, working and attending classes at night. But it paid
off, and I'm glad I did it.
Workplace
Just retired after working 38 years for the Federal
Government. My last 20 yrs were spent in the Dept of Energy
which I left in Dec. 2004. I am planning on doing
substitute teaching in Loudoun County as a part time job,
to keep my brain going.
