Ron's Story

Workplace After completing my Ph. D. in physical chemistry at Rice, I went to work for DuPont as a research scientist for four years. While working at DuPont, I started up my own television antenna business and started taking business classes. The following semester, I was asked to teach two classes so for awhile I was working full-time for DuPont, running my own business, taking two classes, and teaching two classes. I discovered that I enjoyed all those activities, but the one I enjoyed most was teaching. Thus I decided to begin a second Ph. D. in business. Fortunately, I discovered that all I needed was an MBA in combination with my Ph. D. in chemistry. I began my Ph. D. at the University of Houston and ended up completing an MBA at UC-Berke...Expand for more
ley. I then started teaching at SFSU where I have been in the College of Business for several decades. Most of that time was as a professor of market research, then Chair of the Marketing Department, and completed my career at SFSU as Associate Dean. In addition to that mainstay of my professional life, I have actively been a consultant in several areas (market research, database software, local area networks, and even art). In 2004, I retired to Bellingham, WA, a wonderful town between Seattle and Vancourver, Canada. I now play lots of bridge, constanly enhance my bidding system (Enhanced Precision), and write bridge books and articles for bridge magazines. I have won one national bridge championship and am looking forward to adding new titles.
