Ron's Story
After graduation, I enlisted in the Air Force. I started basic training in April, '85 and was discharged in April,'89. I was stationed at March AFB, Ca which is a few miles SE of Riverside. After I was discharged, I moved back to Vegas with a nice sized nest egg. I took off the rest of the year. I worked at the El Rancho as a bellman for a month or so, then landed a job at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach. I lived in Tustin with my Aunt and Uncle for a while. In the mean time, I was trying to get on with Metro (4 times I tested). They were not convinced that I was not a recovering alcoholic/drug abuser. So, needless to say, that wasn't going to happen. The summer of '90 is when Desert Shield kicked off and I was itching to get back into the military. I have been in ever since. I love what I do. I went back to March AFB as an Air Reserve Technician. In Jan,'94, my father, who had been employed with Union Pacific Railroad, was involved in a head on train collision. There were four people involved. Three survived. My father was banged up pretty bad and that was the end of his railroad career.
In '98, my parents purchased property in Montana and in 2000, ...Expand for more
built a beautiful home. Living close to them was important to me, so in March, '00, I moved to Spokane, Wa. and joined the Washington Air National Guard. I live appox. 260 miles from them, which is about the same distance I used to live from them when they were in Vegas and I in Ca. In June, '06, I got married for the first and only time. As of now, we don't have any children, but who knows, maybe we will be expecting sometime in the near future. It is hard for me to belive that it has been 25 years since we graduated and 29 years since I walked through those doors leading to the quad area at Bonanza. Out of all of the people that I met and the friends I made, I can only say that I have been in regular contact with only a couple. Unfortunately, one of my closest friends, Tom Sorenson, died in May, '04. I can say though, that I had a blast in high school. I can remember what I did as a freshman and all the way through to the end of my senior year. "Would I do it again?" you ask yourselves. You bet I would! Do I live in the past? Absolutely not. I love my life and where I have been, and am, with great anticipation, looking forward to the future. Cheers everyone!
