Ron's Story

Life I am still married to my wife Pam for 55 years. We have two children, Greg and Michele and five grandchildren. We lost Joey at age 4 months from SIDS 19 years ago. Nick, Morgan ,Sydney and Claire have graduated from college. Kade is a college freshman. Morgan is the mother of our first Great Grandson. After graduating from GHS I went to Citrus College and then graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Business Management Degree. I was hired by Shell on campus and retired in 2010 after a 41 years career. I started at the Wilmington Refinery near Long Beach, then transferred to Menlo Park, California. After a year there we were transferred to Houston, then to New Orleans, then back to Houston, then to Mobile Alabama, then back to Houston, then 5 years in Al-Khobar Saudi Arabia where I was the Executive Vice President of the Subsidiary that helped manage a 5 billion dollar Chemical plant in a JV Saudi Shell company. Then transferred back to Houston in corporate Benefits and Mergers and Acquisitions. I worked in this group for the last 12 years of my career and was involved in M & A, the company benefit plans, 401k, pensions, executive compensation, e-hr. We had at least 50 trips to and from the US to Europe, South America, Asia and the Middle East. My wife and I were able to visit over 30 countries in connectio...Expand for more
n with many of these trips. It was a great career and provided us with a very secure retirement. Growing up in Glendora my parents did not have much money. We lived in a rental house and my dad was a warehouseman. Thankfully, we lived in a great town with a great high school. Then Citrus College which offered a good education at a low cost we could afford. Also very lucky that Cal Poly was close enough I could live at home as we did not have money to go anywhere else. We never owned a home, never had a new car and vacations were trips to Arkansas to see my grandparents. I was happy and never felt we were poor but in looking back I was just lucky we were in Glendora and found a rental house my parents could afford. I share my story because I always give thanks to the roots of my life and the love of my parents and support of friends that helped us. At this point in life it is time to enjoy everything. Today after being retired for 13 years my daily routine is to walk about 6 miles every day, manage my investments and lead a group of other reitrees in investing their retirement funds. We did a lot of travel during the first few years of retirement but considering we have seen most of the world we tend to only do land trips and do not fly. God bless all of you and may your health and your families health remain good.
