Ron's Story

Yeah, I was going to add a photo of how I looked "then," but I thought how much cooler I look now, so I thought I'd just stick with this. The 50th reunion was great, and Bob Armacost performed admirably as MC at the dinner dance--and it was an act of genius to invite Mr. Ledue! Thanks to EVERYONE involved in the event-- Lois & Pat, you two guys especially. What fun! Ron McFarland teaches literature and creative writing at the University of Idaho. Stranger in Town, his new & selected poems, appeared in 2000 (Confluence Press), his baseball chapbook, At the Ballpark, in 2005 (Pudding House Press). His essays on growing up in Florida, Confessions of a Night Librarian, surfaced in 2005 (Chapin House Press). His most recent books are a critical study of regional memoir, The Rockies in First Pers...Expand for more
on (McFarland Publishing, 2008¿no relation) and The Long Life of Evangeline: A History of the Longfellow Poem in Print, in Adaptation and in Popular Culture (now available¿official release date is in March of 2010). He played soccer at the University of Idaho for more than 20 years before blowing out his left knee. In addition to shooting at birds & angling, his current fascination is fantasy football. His wife Georgia does not applaud this fascination. He has two daughters (Kim & Jennifer) from his previous marriage and each of them has produced a granddaughter (Sara & Mia); Kim tutors in an elementary school in the Seattle area; Jennifer substitutes in schools around Moscow & Troy, Idaho; his son Jon was married in September 2009 and is a sheriff's deputy in Snohomish County, Washington.
