Ron's Story

Life Life is more than having stuff, it is about building strong friendships, loving family and taking care of those who are in need. Life is about integrity, honesty and respect, it is living out your life according to God's given purpose. If I could "redo" parts of my life, I would laugh more, not worry as much, show more respect to others and make more lasting friendhips. School I was born in Denver Colorado, went to Edgewater Elementry until 5th grade when our family moved to Austin Texas do to my Dad's work. There I attended Rosemarry Elementry, Lamar Junior High and then McCallum High School. I missed Colorado so much that I decided to become independent at age 17 and move back to Colorado and stay with my "Granny" for my last year of HS. I enrolled and started my senior year at Jefferson HS (72). Moving back to Denver was not at all what I thought it would be. My Dad came to visit me in September and became gravely ill and passed away that October. I was devestated and had to drop out of Jefferson. My dreams of graduating and going to CU as a business major vanished. After the funeral I returned to Austin to finish HS at McCallum, graduating in 73. That last semester was challenging as I had to go to class from 7am to 5pm to make up for the classes I missed in the fall semester. After graduation, my Mom, three younger brothers and I moved back to Denver to take care of the property and settle my Dad's estate. Military Being in the Navy taught me so much....about myself, and others. I still tear up every time I hear the national anthem played at a ceremony, and see the flag wave or watch as our troups deploy. So many great frie...Expand for more
nds, Charlie Nix (should have been a nuke...but proud to call my cousin-in-law...a match made in Heaven...), Charlie Deahl (who taught me everything about qualifying early), "Chevy" (11 seconds from Mode 1 Lineup to a Mode 3 lineup, best EO on the planet), Brian (kept me in line in Phili, for sending me up to the crows nest to fix the radar, for having confidence in a A-school grad), Greg Brew (who challenged me as a student at NNPS and who I deeply admired), Smitty (We had the best of times at the STC...thanks for all your help at the Citadel), Terry and Jenny (I can't mention Terry without Jenny...for your faith and love and support you gave Deb and I), Andy (we still need to retire in NC on a marina!), Bill Chuck, Ron and Al (couldn't have made that last tour without you guys, thanks for a great retirment send off), Steve E. (best prank at NNPS ever pulled...it took me several hours to find my desk, Tracy (for making NNPTC my most rewarding assignment, for challenging me both on the court and in the classroom and for being a great friend). To Dewey and Dan, I can't even begin to express how greatful and blessed I am for knowing you...God Bless you both always. Sure, there were some real tough times but there were some really fun and memorable times... like when IKE-ey-Moo-Moo swam under the boat without gear to win a bet of his favoite beverage, who also gave me the name "Sram'n Sammy" and for making me the best movie seat card on the boat. NNPTC STAFF was my most rewarding tour, SSN751 most challenging tour. I couldn't have done either without these and many other great friends whom I consider both an honor an privelege to have served beside.
