Ron's Story

I graduated from LLHS in 1961. Went to Santa Rosa J.C. and set records in Track. I was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. I am proud of that award. I then got a full ride track scholarship to Brigham Young University in Utah. I was BYU'S fastest half miler. Setting records were never important to me. But I didn't like to lose. At my age, I am happy to say that I won 95% of all of my races. But then there is the old saying: "THE OLDER I GET, THE FASTER I WAS!" But it is honestly the truth. I received my Bachelor of Science degree at BYU and then did graduate work at Arizona State University. I coached and did substitute teaching at Salinas, CA. Teachers were "dime a dozen" at that time. I ended up working for the U.S. Forest Service for 27 years. While working for the Forest Service, I met my wife, Alice in Wonderland. We had five children, but lost our oldest when he was three years old. Upon retiring, I started my own business, "AMERICAN EAGLE TRANSPORT & ANTIQUES". I transported collector cars throughout the 48 States and Canada. That was the greatest experience of my life. I found out that there are nice people all across the United States. That was a pleasant surprise because I had different thoughts after working for the Federal Government for so long! The one thing that has kept me going on this roller coaster called life has been Elvis Presley and his music. I was fortunate to see Elvis in concert seven times. He didn't need fireworks and fancy props as used by many entertainers. He just walked out on stage and put his heart and soul into every song. Over 30 years have passed and people are still looking for another Elvis. I was fortunate to have met Elvis' Dad and Uncle in a private conversation. There have been many trips to Graceland by all of the Stone family. So don't ask me to vote for the Rolling Stones or Beatles. I come from the United States of America and "IF YOU'RE LOOKIN' FOR TROUBLE YOU CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE, IF YOUR LOOKIN' FOR TROUBLE, JUST LOOK RIGHT IN MY FACE. I WAS BORN STANDING UP AND TALKING BACK..........!" If I am not listening to Elvis, you will find me listening to Country. I really prefer the older Country Music. I drove nearly a million ...Expand for more
miles across the United States and have delivered/picked up cars in most of the major cities. I was able to see most historical landmarks and got to take my kids on some of my trips. I found friends in each State. Truckers would ask me where I live in California. I would tell them and all of them agreed that I live in the best area of the United States. Me and my dog were in Dodge City, Kansas at a truck stop one night. While walking the dog at night, I noticed some guy walking around my rig. I told my dog "let's go see if that guy is "lookin' for Trouble." It turned out the guy lived in a small town nearby Dodge City, but he lived most of his life in Lower Lake!! I learned that it really is a small world. I use to know many Antique Dealers in each State and would always come home with something. I got the antique fever and acquired too much. Now I am slowly selling much of it. I quit hauling interstate and for the past several years, I have been hauling a lot of Costco Store items from the San Francisco Bay Area to Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake Counties. All of a sudden someone pulled the rug out from underneath me and it is a lucky day when my wheels turn. I'm hoping EBAY and Swap Meets, etc. will help me get back on track. I have made Lakeport my home since 1975. My wife has been a cosmetologist since we got married in 1971. Yeah, it took this shy, lonely kid ten years to find a woman who would look twice! Alice is still working out of our home. Most of her clients are older than us! Our oldest son, Clint, lives in Lakeport with his two children. Our other son lives in Santa Rosa with his wife, Julie, and daughter, Abby. Wade works for Comcast. A daughter, Crystal, & hubby, Paul live in Lucerne and work for the Postal Service here in Lakeport. Our youngest, Tracy, still lives at home with us and works for Long's Drugs in Lakeport. I better get myself to bed while my senile brain is still awake. Sure hope some of this writing makes sense. I wrote a book and tried to send it to Classmates. Must have hit the wrong button and lost it. I'll have to have one of my kids add some photos for me. In the meantime, keep the bugs off your windshield and the bears off your tail! Ron Stone 1961
