Ron's Story
Before graduation, I enlisted in the Navy. In 1965 and 1966 I did my Asain vacation in a place called Cam Ranh Bay, attached to the 14th Coastal Patrol Division. After I returned to Bako, I managed a supermarket for a couple of years, then joined the Kern County Sheriff's Department in 1972. I worked there for 29 1/2 years doing everything from street patrol in the communities of Boron, Lamont two times, Taft and Bakersfield. In 1985 I was assigned to the detective division and worked Oilfield crimes, auto theft, crimes against children, and the the last 10 years in the Homicide detail. In 1998 I was assigned to the jail division and retired as Sergeant of the night shift in 2001.
