Ron's Story
I'm still pretty much who I was 50 years ago, except a hell of a lot smarter, and slightly slower - but I still have my hair and weigh 30 lbs less than my SE days!
I left Bradenton in 1982 and haven't been back since 2017 when I moved my mother to Tennessee.
I first retired in 2009 after 30 years working for newspapers, the last 20 at the St. Petersburg Times where I was a senior photo editor. I was high enough in management to know to get out while the getting was good.
I bummed around for a while but realized that having nothing to do was expensive (too much time to buy new toys), So I went back to school, got a second degree, and went to work in the schools. I taught for a while, then worked as a testing coordinator and the school's go-to for whatever else was needed. That meant I did what the boss want...Expand for more
ed - even taught weightlifting for a term (I could do more one-arm pushups than the kids!).
While it was fun warping the minds of other people's kids, all good things come to an end. I finally retired fully in October 2021 when I could start drawing from my investments. I had figured out that my retirement funds would pay me more than my school paycheck. My wife of 38 years joined in retirement in August 2023.
Today we split our time between our home in Lecanto, FL, and our second home in Danli, Honduras where my wife grew up. We also spend a great amount of time spoiling our grandaughter. I spend what time is left doing yardwork and building furniture. I used to regularly Cavedive but had to give it up when I lost hearing in one ear (no reason to risk the second ear).
