Ron's Story
HM-MM I've been thinking how to put what's happened since H.S. into one paragraph and how I got to Thailand without boring U. Looking back, I must say, I've had some great memories these last couple of days.
My passions in life were being developed in and before H.S but began to manifest themselves after graduation. These passions are about friendships, sports, and traveling. I remember my Mom, on a couple of occasions, came to rescue us as Kenny Walker and I were lost skittering on our 4 wheel flexies. Once in Inglewood and then Culver City!!
Two years after H.S. graduation I explored the South Pacific, surfed and lived on the North Shore of Oahu and played major competitive tennis in Europe. I graduated from Brigham Young University (67), being there on a tennis scholarship, and was recruited by BofA, LA Headquarters. Shortly after that I was drafted and served in the military. Married a airline stewardess and got divorced.
I've spent nearly the past 40 yrs involved in almost every aspect of tennis. From learning as a child and then teaching at Westchester Park to owning Marina Tennis World, a pay as U play tennis facility. In 1986 I acquired a stock brokers license and was a part-time liaison between InterFirst Captal and the ATP professional tennis tour players.
I lived on a boat in MDR for several years and was Head Pro and tenn...Expand for more
is shop owner at Mariners Bay for 25 yrs. During the years from 1989 to 2000 I was also a traveling coach on the International ATP Tennis Tour and also worked with ESPN, TV, at the Australian, French, Wimbledon and U.S Opens.
As the ATP tour did not frequent Asia, I had not explored this part of the world. However, on a transfer flight from Australia to the U.S., I decided to visit Thailand. I had heard so many good things about Thailand and I discovered they were mostly all true.
Ever since that time, some 8 yrs ago, Thailand has been my second home until 3 yrs ago I sold everything in the U.S. and made Patong, Phuket
Island my permanent home away from home. We survived the 2004
Tsunami.
I still do a little surfing, teach and coach some tennis, play a lot of golf, travel Asia and very much enjoy being retired. I am married to Nanyong(Thai) and have a step daughter(Yok),18 yrs old. I think I've saved the best for the back nine and the front nine was really special. U were a part of that!!!! THX.
I have met a lot of wonderful folks in my life and would say I've been very lucky to have had my fare share of good friends. However, I will never forget people like yourself and friendships from the earlier years at Westchester H.S. U were the foundation!!!. I'd really enjoy hearing from U. Please do send some updates and pictures.
