Ron's Story

Another year is on the books; I got curious about the signatures in the guest book that I couldn't see. Here goes: *Kindergarten: (Muscatel) Building was in Northwest corner.1951.torn down when the intermediate school was built. Last time I was there (58/59), a baseball diamond covered the area. Started playing piano at 5. *1st grade: (Encinita)... Wells, (later named after the principal, Mrs. Emma Shuey), didn't exist yet. *2-6 (Wells) I was a pet of Mrs. Shuey. I was advanced one year in school, but my mom threw me back into the pond. Ervin Oscar Florence, who was one of two major educational mentors in my life, my 5th and 6th grade teacher, later became the Principal of Encinita!! *7 & 8 (Muscatel) This time in the intermediate school configuration, as it exists today. Began playing clarinet. *9-12 (Rosemead) Moved to San Gabriel after sophomore year but was still in Rosemead's district. Completed 8 straight years of perfect attendance and all I got was a lousy certificate for the four of high school! *Driver's license on sixteenth birthday..100 mph run on the 10 freeway that afternoon (my parents had a '57 Pontiac with a 327 & if they had ever known of my test run, I probably wouldn't have been allowed in a car for the rest of high school...Oh well! My license still got suspended for the last month of school (including graduation) for my 60+ mph run (my '54 Ford) from the Arches to the Island in Newport. Had to go to DMV for a "do you really want a license" class after picking up 4 tickets just before and while in USMC. I haven't been back, except to get color pictures taken since the license was black and white! *4 years of college (Music degree) I was following another mentor, John Hensley but later decided I had to make a change. *Diagnosed with a Mensa IQ *2 years of Dental Technician school (2 schools) *Married..(5 years longer than I should have been)!...1 heir....Divorced *6 years of USMC (I figured that after boot camp, I could survive anything....even divorce was a breeze) ...left as Chief of Administration (0151) at the rank of E5...Received a warrant for E6 but needed to concentrate on business and left before the General could present it to me! *5 SCUBA c...Expand for more
ertifications (certified in both NAUI and PADI) *27 years in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association.. Traveled down the parade route in different capacities a total of 8 times. I drove the president down the route in 1979. In 1994, I drove the first Honda pace car in the parade, which was interesting. In order to travel at 2.5 miles per hour, a bicycle light generator was fixed to a back tire. A Jet Propulsion Lab guy calculated the amount of voltage produced at parade speed and a small volt meter was placed on the dash. People were yelling for us to get an American car all along the route. The Honda I was driving was built in Ohio! In 1999 I was the Parade Manager and was tasked with timing the parade. I also was responsible for the timing of the first B2 bomber to do a flyover at Orange Grove and Colorado. It had to be directly overhead at the same time the Air Force Band was turning the corner (nailed it). *Certified Dental Technician (CDT) in Crown and Bridge (similar to a CPA in the financial world). *27 years, ownership of my own laboratory. I did work for celebrities such as Jonathan Winters, Jack Jones, Forrest Tucker, Ned Romero (star of TV movie, "Chief of the Nes Perse" and detective Joe Rivera on Burt Reynolds' TV show, "Dan August"), Ted Bessell (played Don Hollinger, Marlo Thomas' boyfriend on "That Girl"), Gene Autry's wife, Jackie and Tom Selleck. I once did a gold crown for a stunt man, which was a "lateral", the tooth next to the two front teeth. It was taken to a jeweler and vertically engraved with the word, "stunts" in color. I thought it was bull when I heard it, but he broke it again and I got it back to fabricate a prosthetic which allows the tooth to be replaced again and there it was!!! I once was kiddingly informed that I was becoming a part of the family by Selleck's mother, Martha after completing work for Tom, her, Tom's dad, Bob and a sister. *6 years of management in the water purification business. (1 year as production manager, 3+ years as deployment manager in two states, 2+ years as buyer. I'm enjoying retirement, but want more toys, so I'm into Affiliate Marketing now. To be continued...................I'm still working on it!
