Ron's Story

Remember The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Supremes, The Surfers & The Hards etc. Ok well, its like, hey, we graduated our caps flew off, so then we all piled in to Alpine Alley on 47th ave and Wow! Man a full bar, that was cool (I was 2 months shy of 18). And I have to say we had the best time we could have even though many of us had felt the blow of Bobby Kennedy's asassination. At the time it was just the most incredibly worst thing to happen in our lifetime. Since for us, we had experienced it only 5 years before in Junior High with President Kennedy. Plus all the other life changing things going on all around us. Such as seems to be happening now. Then, things like Carol Johnson kickin me in the shin when I walked past her desk in Mr Bosco's english class, boy I hated that. How about when Paul Croan got hit in the face with an eraser in Mr Hansen's wood shop in Junior High, I'm sure Keith Geintz & Ron Patton and Dave Baucom remember it, and Ken Jensen getting tossed like a toy doll by Mr Kamilos when he was bothering the Band Room class. Anyway, only a few things stand out about that night, talking to Valerie Garrett, (in Gym class we called each other socks)I was having a few drinks with her to many I guess we were all a bit teary eyed but smashed. But then there was my friend Cathy Jordan who needed some directions to the nearest rest stop, when she finally came out, everyone had piled their coats on her. We did have a Great time that night it was unreal. Well so it comes time to go and Steve Belingherie asks me to give him a ride to a friends to party some more so we partied 60's style for a while. All I remember is that I didn't make it home till 6:30 am and had borrowed my dads 66 mustang. Of course that was only the begining, of a long hot summer. Just after Woodstock in 1969 and days af...Expand for more
ter Hurricaine Camille hit the Gulf coast my family Brad, Roger, Kim, my Mom & Me packed our "66" Mustang with five of us in it and left to rendevous with my Dad in Miami what a trip, you see everything going across this country and on Route "66", then anyway, it was awesome. (Love to do that again). I worked in a few local restaurants before giving up my freedom. I enlisted in the Air Force as my number was coming up fast. After Basic training they decided that I was such a fine human specimen that they needed to send me to Mountain Home AFB in Idaho. Now ya know, I'm from these parts, even though I went to High School, I must have completely forgotten where this Idaho was but, I'm willing to go. So I went! And I became a cook. Yep that's me, Ron the Air Force Idaho cook, 19 yrs old, fresh from the Woodstock era and hating Vietnam, for all its worth. Of course I'm a little more middle of the road now. After a few years of that cookin stuff for 5,000 airmen, I had enough and when I came home my dad offered me a job in floorcovering and thats what I've been doin since 1971. My own business, of course in this economy who knows, the internet looks much better, unless my investment pays off. And I think Dancin down the aisle at a wedding is just the the greatest. I'm an open minded 58 yr old now! I'm adding this note: I just read something about my friend Ken Jensen. My intention in mentioning anyone from our class is meant to be in a light hearted fashion,I've spoken to no one, but I read an article about Ken Jensen and what happened that day April 13th 1969 and my heart was touched, he was pinned down in a firefight by the enemy in VietNam and killed. I didn't go to Vietnam while in the Service, but I respect everyone who did and who died for us so we can be free. RON :)
