Ron's Story
Life is precious! On February 12, 2014 I received a bone marrow transplant at Stanford Hospital and Clinics in Palo Alto, California. I was treated for Leukemia for two years and I had to act fast at the end. I must tell you I am doing great and able to function as well as a 40 year old at this stage of my life. My siblings Theresa, Marilyn, and Harlen was unable to match the HLA typing needed for a donor. As you all may know my brother Wally deceased On June 22, 2011 he may have been a match. However I was lucky to get a Allogeniac donor named Heidi Bothun, age 33 from Norway. She was a perfect match and it was quite a Christmas present I received on Christmas Eve in 2013. ries would could share. On July 25, 2015 I will be joining a group of bone marrow transplant survivors for a annual event help by the Stanford cancer center and the BMT. I might add that being a donor for a bone marrow is no longer painful. The process is like giving blood now, they no longer take a core from the hip, it is simple. All one has to do is contact "Be A Match" and submit a swab taken from your mouth and they will place you in the registry so you can be a hero and save some ones life. I sure you all know about Robin Roberts on Good Morning American, she received an Autogeniac transplant from her sister.
