Ron's Story

It is so amazing to look back and realize...an entire life time has gone by. As much as I hate to admit it, at 55 years old...I am now offically a senior citizen...where did that come from??? Actually, my real age is 30...I count anniversarys on my 25th birthday...I now have had 30. I graduated college (Maryville) in 1977. Commissioned a 2/Lt in the Marine Corps, married and had two beautiful daughters, now 29 and 26. Divorced some 12 years later, and presently married to my Bride of now 21 years, and our son is now 19. She's a keeper! All joking aside, my Bride is truly my soul mate. I spent 23 years, 6 months and 8 days in the Marine Corps...and loved every minute of it. I 'lived my dream" in those days, becoming a fighter pilot, flying the F-4 Phantom II and then the F/A-18 Hornet. I was so fortunate in my career, being able to fly nearly my entire time. My last job as Commanding Officer of a F/A-18 fighter squadron, deploying on board the USS Constellation (aircraft carrier)...was my favorite. Flying on and off the "boat" sucked; however, being around all the young Marines and Sailors was so thrilling...they have so much enthusiam and energy. Sadly, all good ...Expand for more
things have to come to an end...I finally had to "grow up" and find something else to do...so I retired in 2000 from San Diego, CA. My Bride and I went for a drive, got lost and found ourselves in Las Vegas...which we call home now. Currently, I am a bus driver. My wheels are an MD11, just a bit smaller than a 747, were I fly people and cargo all around the the world. I fly for World Airways, a small outfit (Charter/ non-scheduled) with about 500 pilots and 600 flight attendants. Our motto is, "World Airways, we fly from pub to pub." The best part of this job, beside the drinking (just kidding, actually drink very little these days), is running into my buddies (guys and gals) every where I go. We are a small outfit and like a family...and like a family reunion every place we go. Of the 4 children we have, our favorite is our 7 year old son...Taco. He is always happy to see you...never wants to borrow the keys to the car/truck...always happy to see you...never goes through the teenage years...and always happy to see you. In fact, if you take your wife and dog, put them in the trunk of your car; two hours later open up the trunk...which one will be happy to see you?
