Time, like an angel, lights on the stair,
muting the morning she heralds
dew on the grass like the tears the night wept
gone long before the day wears old
Time stills the singing the child held so dear
And I'm just beginning to hear
Gone are the pathways the child followed home
Gone like the sand and the foam
- Dan Folgelberg
Let your love be like the misty rain - gentle in coming but flooding the river. - African Proverb

Long ago I used to be a young man
But dear Margaret remembers that for me
From "The Dutchman" by Michael Peter Smith
But since it fell unto my lot,
That I should rise and you should not,
I'll gently rise and softly call,
Good night and joy be to you all.
-The Parting Glass (Traditional)
Come by the hills to the place where life is a song.
Where the birds fill the air with their joy all day long
Where the trees sway in time and even the wind sings in tune
Where the cares of the morrow can wait 'til this day is done.
- W. Gordon Smith about Ireland or is it Scotland - eh One and the Same!
So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring
worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today.

even there your hand would guide me,

Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?"
He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God.

It ain't what you don't know that gets you in trouble, its what you know that ain't so - Will Rogers
It is a mistake to think that Christians ought all to be teetotallers; Mohammedanism, not Christianity, is the teetotal religion. Of course it may be the duty of a particular Christian, or of any Christian, at a particular time, to abstain from strong drink, either because he is the sort of man who cannot drink at all without drinking too much or because he is with people who are inclined to drunkenness and must not encourage them by drinking himself. But the whole point is that he is abstaining, for a good reason, from something which he does not condemn and which he likes to see other people enjoying. One of the marks of a certain type of bad man is that he cannot give up a thing himself without wanting every one else to give it up. That is not the Christian way. An individual Christian may see fit to give up all sorts of things for special reasons — marriage, or meat, or beer, or the cinema; but the moment he starts saying the things are bad in themselves, or looking down his nose at other people who do use them, he has taken the wrong turning.
— C. S. Lewis, The ‘Cardinal’ Virtues, Mere Christianity
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38
Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands an accounting for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and reverence. I Peter 3:15-16
Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses
let us throw off everything that hinders
and the sin that so easily entangles us
let us run with perseverance
the race marked out for us.
- Hebrews 12:1
Some men are sailors, but most are just dreamers
held fast by the anchors they forge in their minds,
who in their hearts know they'll never
sail over deep water
to search for a treasure
they're afraid they won't find.
So, in sheltered harbours
they cling to their anchors,
bank down the boilers and shut down the steam
and wait for the sailors to return with much treasure
that will fan the dull embers and fire up their dreams. - Eric Bogle".
