Ronald's Story

Life Graduated Michigan State University 1965. Entered US Army and served in Viet Nam, Ft Bragg, Ft Benning, and Korea as an Infantry Officer. Received a Master of Education from NC State University in 1977. Served with NC Army National Guard and USAR and retired from The Joint Staff, The Pentagon in Oct 1993. Retired from the US Civil Service in 1999 after serving as the Senior Educator at Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools, Camp Johnson, Camp Lejeune NC. This was the Recruit Training Center for all African American Marines in WWII and the Camp where Mr Earl Shorter, our high school chemistry teacher took his Recruit Training. Currently am a teacher and free lance historian specializing in Black Military History in the Jacksonville North Carolina area. Currently am a certified Guest Teacher (long term)in Onslow County NC and also the Past (2004-2005) District Governor for North Carolina of Toastmasters International School Started with Mrs Dudley's AM Kindergarten at Francis E. Willard Elementary in Philadelphia 1949-1955); John Paul Jones Junior High (1955-1958) with a short hiatus to DelHass and Ben Franklin Junior High in 1955 in Levittown PA. Have also spent time at Georgia State (1969-1970); UNC-CH (1971-72); American University (1969); East Carolina (2000) and UNC-Wilmington (2002) Workplace Mostly have worked for the USG, Army (5 yrs) and Army National Guard (13 yrs) all my adult life. Spent 16 years as Senior Educator/Director of Instruction at Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools, Camp Lejeune NC. Have dabbled in construction and real estate, cabinetmaking, patternmaking and driving a truck. Currently am working as a High School Teacher in history and political science. Job that taught me the most was Dishwasher in the World's Largest Kitchen at Michigan State. Taught me to work hard, be on time, and appreciate other work. Gave me confidence to reach out in that I knew I could always go back to washing dishes if I took a chance and failed at something else. Military Reserve Control Group 1961. Commissioned ROTC Michigan State 1965. Served with 1/7th Div (Korea), Special Warfare School, Ft Bragg; Advisory Tms 3 & 18 and USARV Advisor School in RVN. CO, E-9-2 Ft Benning, Chief FO Section 4.2 Mortar Committee, USAIS. NCARNG 1-252d AR in Fayetteville, 108th Trng Div, and J-1, The Joint Staff, The Pentagon. Transferred to Retired Reserves in 1993. Retired with 42 years 3 months on the rolls in December 2003. Time's fun when you are having flies!

Had a heart cath yesterday at Vidant Heart Ctr in Greenville, NC yesterday.  Doctor pronounced me as healthy and good to go.  I will probably live to ninety and you are all invited to my Roller Skating Birthday Party
