Ronald's Story

After graduating, I moved to NJ and attended Fairleigh Dickenson University, Teaneck, and received my BS and MS in biology by 1974. I got married in 1973 to Sharyn, and in 1975 we had a gorgeous baby girl, Lisa. My wife was a Registered Nurse, while I went into teaching college at FDU and then Felician College, also in NJ. This went on for 13 years, until the student enrollment hit bottom and 50% of the faculty was let go (me included). I found work at a Home Care Company in 1982 and worked for them for 5 years. Went back to school and became a Registered Respiratory Therapist, and did that for 35 years (just retired this past February). For 25 years at my last hospital, I went from staff to management, and back to staff again (hated management). I became a specialist in the field of Neonatal Respiratory Care. I.E., I took care of preemies and sick newborns. I guess I did alright; most of the parents referred to me as Uncle Ron. I truly miss them and the hustle and bustle of the NICU. children I took care of in all that time. Unfortunately, my wife of 40 years succumbed quickly to a fight with cancer, and passed away in 2013. It's been a struggle to maintain any kind of semblance to normality since then, but my daughter has been my rock and best friend, so things have been improving a lot. She lives in Fort Worth, Texas with her husband. In July of this year I came out to Texas and have stayed here since then. Living in Texas has been a turning point in my life. I am currently living with friends until I can sell my house in NJ, and plan to move here permanently when I do so. Here is San Angelo, Texas (western, Central part of Texas, about an hour SW of San Antonio). It's a college town, Angelo State University is here. I love retirement, and enjoy the Texas lifestyle out here. I would recommend it to everyone. It's December 23 and the temperature outside is a frigid 73 degrees. Where's my sweater. I look forward to hearing from my old classmates. Would love to hear what y'all have been up to. Keep in touch.
