Ronald's Story
After graduating in 1960 I entered Cal Berkeley, Engineering Major. Decided to change majors and take a break. I went to a local community college to decide what major I wanted. That's where I met my wife. Became a history major. In 1963 I took another break. The draft board said "hello". I joined the army so I could choose where I wanted to go. Went to Fort Ord then Fort Knox. Stayed at Fort Knox as training cadre. Got married Christmas Eve, 1963. It will be 57 years this Christmas. My wife joined my in the sprin...Expand for more
g of 1964. In the summer of 1965 I was deployed to the Dominican Republic as part of the peace keeping force. I was on orders for Vietnam at the time. I was sent because I spoke Spanish, taking it at Gar-field (thank you Mrs. Parr!) and in college. Came home and decided to join the National Guard full-time. Left the Guard in 1986. I went to work at a high school as a security officer. Retired in 2006 and have been enjoying my retirement ever since. Three kids, five grandkids and three great-grandkids keep me busy.
