Ronald's Story
My Tale¿ by Ronnie Hines
After getting kicked out of UF in my senior year as an Architecture student, I enlisted in the Army before they could draft me. I thought I could outsmart the US government and control my own destiny vis-Ã -vis the Viet Nam war. It didn't work. Got married and went off to the war all at once.
I survived the war in pretty much one piece and went back to UF on the GI Bill. I worked at and then managed the local ambulance/emergency medical service. That was good for about seven years and was pretty exciting until local government took it over. I got out and with my wife Bette, opened a retail clothing store, Levity, in Gainesville... good for about another seven years.
Somewhere in there, I decided to get unmarried and start over again. I left Gainesville, and moved to the Tampa area where I went back to school again to get up to date in computer science. I apprenticed for a couple of years and then went out on my own as a contract programmer.

nd I've been at it since.
About eighteen years ago, I took a new bride, Debbie, and helped her raise her two (then) preteen kids, Ian and Chandra.
The kids are grown and have left us in our empty nest... very peaceful. So, now we are both working our asses off trying to get enough saved up so that we can retire someday.
So far, I've had a good time every step of the way... wouldn't change it a jot... except maybe for the war part. I enjoy my work immensely, adore our three grandkids (all boys), and am sharing my life with a wonderful woman. I hope I live to be a very old fart!
Thus endith my tale... for now.
2019 Update... We are now up to 4 grandkids... all boys. Debbie is retired but I am not... well almost retired. I still have a few IT clients and can handle their needs remotely. That allows me to travel more and keep up with Debbie. We have moved from the Tampa suburbs to the downtown area and are enjoying High Rise Life. Everything is walkable and the cruise ship terminal is only two blocks away. I would love to hear from classmates and find out what you guys have been doing.
