Ronald's Story

After high school and DMACC, got a job at a local insurance company in the accounting dept. In 1978 was transferred to the NYC office as manager. Wow, what a change in life with a chance to see another part of the world! Got to see Broadway plays as well as witness 9/11 much too close as I was working in NYC that day. The one to two hour (each way) commute into NYC every day to work was a challenge at times, but the job provided opportunities to see and do new things in New York City. I worked in the Empire State Building for a few years until the office moved. After I moved to NJ, I enjoyed the single life with being able to visit many interesting places around the area. For a few years I was in charge of a Single Adult group at church. I helped plan activities and other events for the group. For some time, I was the only guy and that made it extremely enjoyable! Married Lois in 1984. No kids, unfortunately. But that allowed me to help a few less fortunate kids whose parents had unfortunate financial times. I give the kids encouragement as well as help their parents provide basic needs. These kids make my head swell in that they all wish I was their dad (their fathers are not active in their lives)! Two kids got me playing Toontown with them; but now I'm hooked as I play even when they are not on! I still enjoy tropical fish with multiple aquariums. About 10 years ago, I obtained several Dwarf African clawed frogs. They laid eggs and I tried what was stated to be impossible; raising them from eggs. 200-plus frogs later... still have a few but no longer saving eggs. Being on a tight budget, I've rediscovered goldfish at 10 cents each. Also enjoy gardening, houseplants (Gesneriads), and photography. Im currently taking classes at the local high school put on by the computer club; students provide one-on-one lesson assistance to the adults. acements, three hernia repairs and a herniated disk. Had nerve damage during right hip replacement, so wear a foot/ankle brace. Wife had both knees replaced. Hopefully we're now good for few years and wont need new parts. After retaining my employment through many company mergers over the years, was laid off April 2009 with almost 38 years of service. Job stress was really affecting me, so it was more of a relief than anything else. Although difficult and still job hunting, so far it has been a blessing in that I now have time to enjoy life more and work on family history (my mom had stuff back to 1870's!). Basically right now I'm trying to figure out what to do with my short-term future before social security begins. It'll be a rough 5 or more years unless I find a new stream of cash (aka "job"). Really enjoying semi-retirement a little too much and would rather not do that "job thing" again unless I have to lol. Being that NJ has the highest property taxes in the country, I'll either need to find a job or move out of NJ at some point. Updated Sept 5 2011, I've kind of given up on getting another job, so guess I'm "retired" unless something comes up. Seem to be too busy for a job with household tasks and wife's doctor appts. I'm not complaining as I like not having a boss (outside of the one I live with lol). The past year has flown by and can't believe I've had braces on my teeth for that long. I tell my dentist that they have to be done by the time I sign up for the Senior Center next month (can join on my 60th birthday - holy cow, where did that number come from?? lol). This marks a sad anniversary of 9/11. The memories I have of that day and being in NYC are overwhelming! If anyone wants to contact me: rwkline2 at verizon dot net Update 8/19/19: Can't believe I have been retired for 10 years now. Where did that time go? Recently had cataract surgery and stents put in my eyes for glaucoma.
