Ronald's Story

After Newtown, I went to NYC Community College for Commercial Art/Graphic Design. Upon graduation, I was hired by a design studio on Madison Ave, then an advertising agency. I got drafted into the Army in 1967. Stayed in Ft. Gordon, GA after basic training, then got "a vacation" in Vietnam. After 365 days, I returned home to Jackson Heights, and went back to my chosen career. I moved around the advertising agencies, got married, then landed a job as an Art Director for a Fortune 500 corporation in Greenwich, CT. We moved up to Norwalk, CT, and lived there and watched our kids (a girl and a boy) grow up. At some point later, I was working at the HQ of the Caldor Corp. (Norwalk, CT). When they went belly-up, I found a job at the HQ of another retail chain in the Mid-West. We moved to Green Bay, WI (the kids were already in college by then). my position was cut, and I was able to get a headhunter to find me a decent job in the Atlanta, GA neighborhood. After management changes, I was out looking again. But by this time, I was disillusioned with the business and decided to change careers. So, at 59, I was hired by the City of College Park, sent to the Police Academy, and became a full-fledged, law enforcement officer. Although I work for a different city now (Palmetto), I'm loving it, and have risen to the rank of Sergeant in a relatively short time, with hopes of being a Lieutenant by the end of my police career. My goal is to be the oldest working Police Officer in the state (if not, the nation). I still do graphic design and am a "professional" photographer on the side, but I can choose who I want to work with at this point in my life. How's that! Kinda sad to be able to put all these years in one paragraph.
